Wellbeing update:  Strengthening Our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) Framework

Throughout this term, our staff have been working collaboratively on an exciting piece of whole-school improvement: strengthening our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) systems. We have been building on the strong wellbeing and behaviour practices already in place at Caulfield Primary School including positive relationships, clear expectations and supportive routines to further support our students. This work ensures that when students walk through the gates next year, they will be met with clear expectations, predictable routines, and a consistent, positive approach to behaviour across the school.

This term, our staff have been building on the strong wellbeing and behaviour practices already in place at Caulfield Primary School. We have a solid foundation of positive relationships, clear expectations and supportive routines across the school. Our work this term has focused on refining and enhancing these approaches so that our whole-school systems are even more consistent, clear and aligned as we move into 2026.

Our focus areas this term have included:

Developing values lessons to launch in Term 1

These lessons will introduce every student to our new school values using engaging activities, shared language and practical examples. This ensures all students begin the year with clarity and confidence.

Creating a whole-school Behaviour Matrix

While teachers already use consistent expectations, we are creating a clearer whole-school matrix that articulates what our values look like in classrooms, the yard, corridors, specialist areas and communal spaces. This helps us maintain a common language and approach across all settings.

Aligning staff understanding around minor and major behaviours

Staff have been aligning their understanding of different behaviour types so responses are fair, consistent and developmentally appropriate across the school.

Embedding logical, restorative consequences

Staff already use natural and logical consequences to support student learning. We are now refining this practice to ensure consequences closely align with behaviours and help students repair, reflect and re-enter learning effectively.

We are excited to launch this work in the new year and look forward to partnering with you as we bring our SWPBS framework to life. We will also be sharing our new Behaviour Matrix and supporting documents with families so you can see the expectations we are teaching and reinforce them at home.

Warm regards,
