The Year That Was

A Year to Remember at BNPS

What a wonderful and exciting year it has been! 2025 was filled with remarkable achievements, joyous moments, and incredible milestones for both our students and staff. Together, we’ve celebrated learning, growth, and community spirit in ways that truly reflect the heart of our school.

After many years of dedicated service to Beaumaris North Primary School, Sherril retired at the end of Term 3. As part of the celebrations honouring Sherril, we held a ‘Dress up as a Principal’ day.

From our youngest Preps to our Year 6 leaders, everyone has enjoyed opportunities to learn, connect, and have fun through these events.

Each of these experiences has helped our students grow in confidence, teamwork, and creativity, while strengthening the bonds across our school community.

One of the highlights from the final term of the year was the Year 6 Mega Market.  The Year 6 students transformed our school grounds into a place filled with decorated stalls. The excitement was clearly evident as our entire student body roamed freely in this fun-filled environment. The children were so excited that they could spend their money on whatever they wanted without mum or dad being with them!

As we look back on this jam-packed year, we are proud of the opportunities BNPS has provided and grateful to our staff, families, and volunteers who made them possible. Here’s to even more exciting adventures in 2026!

2025 Trend

Please watch this video of our Year 2 students joining in on the 6, 7 craze — the trend that had teachers and parents alike shaking their heads (and smiling) in 2025!

Acknowledging Our Community

I extend my deepest gratitude to our incredible teachers and staff, whose commitment to excellence inspires our students daily.

To our parents and carers, thank you for being our partners in education and for entrusting us with the privilege of nurturing your children.

To our students, you are the heart of our school, and your hard work, kindness, and curiosity continue to make us proud.

On Sunday 7 December, we held our first whole-school Working Bee in a very long time, and I am delighted to announce that it was a tremendous success. The weather was on our side, and the amazing BNPS community, our staff and families, truly shone.

We had volunteers painting the Prep Breezeway and cubbies, clearing weeds, resurfacing garden beds, moving tonnes of sand and dirt around the grounds, transporting furniture, high-pressure hosing, cooking sausages for all the hungry workers, and completing countless other jobs. It truly took my breath away to see the amount of effort and teamwork put into the day.

On behalf of everyone involved in organising the Bee, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to every single person who gave up their Sunday morning to help clean, fix, and improve our school. Your time and energy made a huge difference, and a very productive and positive day, thank you.

Our school concert was nothing short of brilliant! Each and every performance was a joy to watch—the students looked fantastic, sounded amazing, and truly shone on stage.

The amount of effort and dedication from both students and teachers was evident in every moment. From rehearsals to the final curtain call, the hard work paid off in a spectacular showcase of talent and teamwork.

A very special thank you goes to our music teachers, whose outstanding guidance and creativity brought the whole event together. Their passion and commitment ensured that the concert was not only polished and professional, but also a memorable celebration of our students’ abilities.

We are so proud of everyone involved—what a wonderful way to highlight the spirit and talent of BNPS!

Looking Ahead

As we prepare for the new year, we are excited about the opportunities and plans on the horizon.

Our school, like all schools, experience significant changes at this time of the year in preparation for new and exciting plans for the next year. I would like to let you know that year levels and some specialists have been relocated to other rooms to help us achieve the ambitious goals we have set ourselves as a school in 2026.

Beaumaris North Primary School has always achieved excellent academic outcomes for students, and we intend to make this even better going forward. The organisation and strategic deployment of learning support staff will play an important role in our students' success, and you may notice these remarkable people working a little differently in 2026. This has all led to the re-arrangement of the school. It is about the learning and opportunities for our students, because nothing less than our best will do.

Behind the scenes, our wonderful teachers are preparing updated curricular materials, ensuring supports and extensions are in place to meet each child where they are at. We are refining our practice in explicit instruction to be sure each child has understood foundational concepts are secure as they head into inquiry.

The introduction of Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) means we now have a snapshot of where our whole school is with their literacy. We will use this information to inform our teaching and be agile as we respond to the needs of students.

Phonics plays a huge role in how we will teach literacy, and you might notice 'easy' books are being read in some year levels. Don't mistake this for 'too easy', because decodable books are about fluency (essential for eventually learning grammar), not about being able to read difficult words or understand complex concepts. That's why we have rich texts and novel studies as well. Reading at home, and being read to with nuance and emphasis, remains a significant part of learning for our young people. We appreciate our parents' efforts to continue reading aloud for as long as possible.

Through the generosity of our Parents and Friends Association, we purchased document cameras (like an old-school overhead projector, but digital and tiny) for each classroom. These work to magnify anything we put under them and enable teachers to be much more precise with their instruction. This will be particularly important in mathematics, and very useful when demonstrating how to form letters. They are also fantastic for picking up an excellent example of a student's work and quickly letting the whole class see it.

Attached, you'll find a map with the new location of year levels and specialists. We are excited about what this means for our school and are looking forward to everything the new year will bring.

Fete 2026

We are already looking forward to our bi-annual school fete next March (Saturday   28 March), a highlight on the BNPS calendar and a wonderful celebration of our school community.

Behind the scenes, our amazing Parents & Friends Group has already begun preparations to make this event bigger and better than ever. From stalls and entertainment to food and activities, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Stay tuned in the new year for more details on how you can get involved, support, and join in the fun.

We can’t wait to see our community come together for what promises to be a fantastic day!

Festive Fun Sports Activity Morning

Today our Year 5 students took the lead in organising and running a fantastic Festive Fun Sports Morning. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the final week of Term 4, filled with energy, teamwork, and plenty of smiles.

A big congratulations to our Year 5s for their effort, organisation, and leadership in making this such a memorable morning for the whole school.

Thank You and Happy Holidays

As the end of the school year approaches, it is almost time for rest and relaxation away from the rigours of school. Excitement is mounting for our students as the festivities of Christmas commence.  I do hope that the Christmas break is a time when families can come together and spend valuable time together.

I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and I look forward to seeing everyone in 2026.

Kind Regards

Julia Stoppa
