Junior: FIVE Es TIME TARGETS

Wellbeing Element: Positive Emotion + gratitude
Character Strength: Prudence
Parent Wellbeing: a great strategy to put yourself in a positive frame of mind every morning, is to spend five minutes over a cuppa or a coffee, to think about and then write down what you are looking forward to most for the day ahead. They don’t have to be big things. It’s funny how looking forward to something lifts your spirits and raises your self–awareness to be on the lookout for little positives. Remember, from little things, big things grow. What are you looking forward to today?

Can you believe it? We are in the final sprint of Term 4 and 2025! Man has this year flown (like an Eagle)! As we wrap up another exciting and rewarding school year, we take a moment to celebrate the students who continue to make our school such a vibrant and inspiring community.
From academic achievements to artistic creativity, sporting triumphs to acts of kindness, our students have shown what it means to learn with curiosity and lead with compassion. Many have stepped outside their comfort zones: trying new subjects, representing the school, volunteering their time, or challenging themselves in the classroom. These moments of courage and persistence are what make this year so memorable.
We also congratulate our students on their engagement across the school. Whether it was cheering on peers at carnivals, performing onstage, leading assemblies, or working collaboratively in class, each contribution has helped build a strong sense of belonging.
A heartfelt thank you to the OCC Benilde team, who have worked tirelessly to support and encourage students every step of the way and to you, our families for your ongoing partnership.
As students head into a well-deserved break, we wish everyone a safe and joyful holiday season. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year for another year of learning, growth, connection and hopefully a house cup in 2026!

The La Salle house is encouraged to finish strong as the year draws to a close. The focus across the college remains firmly on Driving Engaged Learning. The final assessment period is now underway, and it is pleasing to see students demonstrating commitment and focus during this assessment period. The collective effort of staff and students has ensured a calm and productive environment as we approach the end of term.
The new Year 7 group for 2026 recently enjoyed their final Step Day, which was filled with excitement and anticipation for the year ahead. The day provided an opportunity for students to connect with peers, meet teachers, and become familiar with the college environment. Their enthusiasm and positive energy were wonderful to see, setting a strong foundation for their transition into high school life next year.
Year 7 and some Year 8 students are completing their Life Saving training modules. This comprehensive program develops essential water safety and rescue skills. Some Year 9 students will also be taking on instructor roles, assisting with training sessions and supporting younger students as they develop their skills. Their involvement provides valuable leadership experience and fosters a strong sense of responsibility and teamwork.
Year 10 students are currently engaged in the important process of planning their next steps, whether transitioning into Stage 6 or exploring alternate pathways aligned with their future aspirations. Re-enrolment interviews are being conducted this term for those continuing into Stage 6 at OCC.
Meanwhile, Year 12 students have commenced their first assessment tasks for the 2026 HSC year. These initial assessments provide valuable feedback, helping students refine their study strategies for the year ahead.
To conclude Term 5, students in Years 7, 8, and 9 will participate in a series of activities during Week 10 designed to build interest in leisure and recreational pursuits. These sessions aim to encourage students to explore new hobbies, and discover healthy ways to relax. Students are able to choose which activities they prefer out of a variety of engaging options.
Special recognition is extended to our La Salle House Captains, Caitlin and Evie for their outstanding leadership and initiative. Their efforts in revitalizing house cheers and introducing new initiatives have strengthened house spirit and engagement throughout the year. Their commitment and creativity have made a lasting impact on the House community.
As the term progresses and energy levels begin to wane, it is important to remain mindful of building and maintaining positive relationships. Working hard on friendships, especially during challenging times, helps sustain a supportive and respectful community. Encouraging kindness, patience, and understanding ensures that everyone finishes the year feeling valued and connected.
Please save the date for our End of Year Presentation Day 12th December, a special occasion to recognise the accomplishments and efforts of our students across all year levels.

As we enter the final stretch of Term 4, it’s hard to believe how quickly the year has flown by. The end of the year always brings a mix of celebration, reflection, and anticipation, and it has been wonderful to see Merici students embracing all of it with enthusiasm and heart.
Over the past few weeks, our students have continued to demonstrate the strong sense of spirit and connection that Merici House is known for. Whether engaging in their final assessments, supporting one another through end-of-year events, or simply contributing positively in daily school life, our students continue to lead with kindness, effort, and pride. These seemingly small contributions—checking in on a friend, persevering through revision, or stepping in to help during activities—truly shape our House culture.
A very warm congratulations goes to our wonderful Year 12 students, who have now completed their formal schooling. Their leadership, resilience, and presence have been invaluable to our community. As they prepare to move into a new and exciting chapter, we wish them every success and hope they carry the Merici spirit with them.
I would also like to recognise the ongoing support of our families and our PAC teachers, who continue to guide and encourage our students as the year draws to a close. Your partnership and positivity make a tremendous difference.
As we approach the last few weeks of 2025, I encourage all Merici students to stay focused, keep supporting each other, and finish the term with the same energy and character you have shown throughout the year. Let’s continue to make these final moments meaningful as we look toward a new year of growth, connection, and opportunity.
Warm regards,
Mr Shane McCann
