It has been fantastic to meet with so many year 10 families this term at the Stage 6 Enrolment interviews. With such a significant transition in learning approaching, it is vital that students have a holistic support network at home and school as they embark on this journey. If you would like to discuss your child’s pattern of study or have any questions please reach out to myself or the school office.
Many students across years 9 and 10 have been seeking information about work experience and alternative pathway options. At O’Connor, Stage 5 students are able to engage in a flexible work experience program in an industry of interest. Finding a willing employer is the first step in this process before completing the school's work experience paperwork. Students can access these forms from me and they ensure that appropriate insurance is in place for the duration of placements. Work experience is flexible and can be completed as a block or one day per week arrangement.
School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships are an opportunity for students to work as a trainee, engage with the appropriate vocational qualification while finishing school. SBAT’s can be completed in a range of industries including trades, early childhood, hairdressing and beauty and nursing. This NSW Government resource is a great starting point for SBAT information. If you would like to discuss what an SBAT may look like for your child, please let me know.
Planning is continuing for the 2025 Year 10 Alternate Program. Throughout week 9, students will have opportunities to engage with cultural, wellness and Stage 6 prep workshops targeted to their senior study needs. Visits to the University of New England and Southern Cross University form part of the week, giving students the opportunity to meet current university students across a range of faculties and tour tertiary education facilities. Please access event information on Compass and give consent, a full timetable of events will be sent home shortly.
