From Our Principals

Anna-Marie Yelland and Aaron Jones

Dear families,

What another incredibly busy but fun filled and community minded fortnight.

It is no easy feat to organise one concert let alone two, a week apart. I want to again say a huge thank you to Ms Roszbach for her dedication and enthusiasm in bringing her vision to life. I thank all our staff for assisting, co-ordinating and supporting with rehearsals and on the evening/s. And to our wonderful students, it isn't easy performing in front of an audience, and they all did an exceptional job. What a wonderful way to celebrate an incredible year as a community. Looking ahead we have mango delivery to look forward to, Year 5 camp, Yr 3-day camp and Year 6 graduation. We will also be calling on parent helpers to do an inside clean up as we have a massive skip being delivered in our final week of term.

Although it is a busy time of year, it is special time to stop and reflect on the year and celebrate our many achievements. I can't believe how fast the year has flown and feel very proud to be part of our OPS community.

Please read below for lots of important updates.

2026 Staffing

With only 2 weeks to go we are in the full swing of planning for 2026 and with that comes the time of year where we farewell staff and welcome others. At the end of this year we will say goodbye to Mr Pannam, Ms Fountain, Ms Kelly, Ms Roszbach, Ms Hadi and Mrs Downard. We thank these staff for their commitment and dedication to OPS and we will give them a proper goodbye at our final assembly. We will also be farewelling Ms Kah, but just for the 2026 school year and welcoming back Mrs Kupfer and Miss Dijanesic. We are also welcoming staff that will be brand new to our Ormond Primary School community - Miss Stelling, Mr Keng, Miss Perryman and Mrs Evenden. They are looking forward to meeting our community next Tuesday for our UP day.

Child Safety

Ormond Primary School is committed to providing an environment where students are safe and feel safe. We are also committed to continuous improvement of our child safety framework. We are currently reviewing our child safety policies and practices to ensure they are up-to-date and effective.

Our child safety framework includes policies, codes and procedures that explain how we support and maintain the safety and wellbeing of our students and protect them from harm. These documents are available on our website and are updated as our policies are. Our School Council, Education Sub Committee and Parent and Friends Association have been integral in helping us review and develop policies. This week our updated Attendance and Student Wellbeing and Engagement policies were ratified by School Council and will be available on our website next week.

Our students and families are important partners in this process. We welcome your feedback or ideas on ways we can improve our approach to child safety and wellbeing

If you have any suggestions or comments, please contact Ormond Primary School on 03 9578 1327 or at ormond.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

Congratulations to our wonderful Yr 6 Softball team and their amazing coach Ms Vallence. While we didn't win today the team have shown vast improvement over the year and made OPS proud with their encouragement and support of each other but how they handled themselves in defeat. We are proud of you and your efforts. Congratulations team!

Recycling Project

At a community engagement subcommittee, it was discussed how to become more environmentally conscious. Given it is the end of the year and a lot of moving and decluttering is happening, it is a perfect opportunity to participate in the Officeworks Schools Recycling Program. The main aim is to collect as many stationary items as possible to repurpose and recycle.

If the environment isn't reason enough to get on board, there is also the opportunity for our school to go into a draw to win cash prizes! Once the boxes are returned to Officeworks with the recycling items collected, we will be entered into the draw.

Diana (Milena and Sasha's mum) has kindly collected some Officeworks donation boxes for the collection of the stationery items. We are hoping to place boxes in each class, or in a number of spots around the school for ease of collecting. Diana will return the boxes to Officeworks once they are full. Thanks Diana!

Please have a look at the list below of items that can be recycled and perhaps go through it with your child/ren so they are aware:

A huge congratulations to Nora in Year 5 on her State Schools Victoria presentation in softball. Nora is the youngest person to be selected for the team, and her coaches have noted how she has adapted exceedingly well to the team while working with older and more experienced players. Amazing effort Nora!

Majestic Metro Tunnel

The Metro Tunnel is now open to the public! And our very own George M got to see it in person. His dad, Gavin, shared some pics from their adventures! It looks fantastic.

Passengers can now catch a train through the twin nine-kilometre tunnels and five new stations – Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac.

On the first day of the service operating, more than 70,000 people turned out to ride the Metro Tunnel. From December until the end of January, public transport will be free for everyone across the state of Victoria on Saturdays and Sundays.  So, if you're looking for a FREE holiday activity, head down to check it out like George did!
