Students in Humanities have began the term by exploring Ancient Australia in their History unit. They learned about the continent's rich culture and history, defining terms such as 'nation,' 'language group,' 'Woi-wurrung,' and 'Wurundjeri.' Students also examined how various events influenced Ancient Australian culture, using the correct terminology when discussing First Nations Peoples. They outlined different beliefs about how people arrived in Australia, including the 'Out of Africa' theory, and explained the routes and methods early humans used for migration. Additionally, they identified key archaeological discoveries and described evidence such as fossils, tools, and art. Finally, they explored Aboriginal belief systems and compared concepts like 'country' and 'dreamtime.' Now, students are progressing to KLT 3, where they will delve into the significance of Lake Mungo and its impact on Australian history. This will further deepen their understanding of early human life in Australia and the importance of these ancient sites

Yarrabing (pronounced yarra-bing) is a Woi-wurrung word of the Wurundjeri people meaning white gum.
