English & Literacy

The time has come! The English & Literacy Faculties are very enthusiastic about the upcoming Book Week between 17th-23rd August. We will be running a variety of activities and competitions throughout the week! More details will be announced in due course.

In the classroom, English has been a rather heartwarming subject in Term 3. Students performed their first high school oral presentation in the form of a persuasive speech. All English teachers were very proud of what our students were able to achieve. Although students felt very nervous as they practised their speeches, they were able to showcase what they had learned about the art of rhetoric, incorporating the appeals of logos, ethos and pathos throughout their final product. We hope every student remembers this critical moment of overcoming a challenge throughout the remainder of their schooling, and throughout their post-school futures.

Year 7s have begun a close study of Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpiece, ‘Spirited Away,’ as they work towards a film analysis. Teachers are witnessing amazing engagement in the animated film, with each class actively participating in discussions sounding some key themes. Despite analytical writing being a foreign endeavour for many Yarrabing students, they are showing resilience as they adopt a completely new writing style. We are very much looking forward to students’ analytical writing pieces in Week 9.
