It has certainly been a very busy and productive start to Term 3. In this edition of the college’s newsletter there are a few things that I would like to bring to the community’s attention.
Celebrating Success
As we begin the new term and reflect on the first semester’s work, it is a wonderful opportunity for the college to celebrate the many successes that our students have achieved.
As a school community it is vitally important that we celebrate our success. Good schools recognize the outstanding events that students accomplish, both inside and outside of the college. Watching students grow and realise their goals is one of the key reasons many of the staff of the college began working in education, myself included. The recognition of students fosters strong relationships among students, families, the college, and the community and creates a positive school culture where students feel valued.
There are a number of students who continually work well in class and with their peers and their teachers. They have performed well in their studies gaining them Achievement Certificates. Those who have earned a number of outstanding results in three or more units of study gain an Academic Excellence certificate which will be recognised at our annual Awards ceremony at the end of the year.
I would like to acknowledge the work of all the teachers throughout the first semester. They have worked together to plan engaging and purposeful lessons that have helped students gain these achievements.
Parent Survey
Our school is conducting the annual Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The College generated and emailed 149 individualized links to our families to complete the Parent survey.
The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.
Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.
The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 29 July to Friday 30 August 2024.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents/caregivers/guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to the college directly for survey guides in your language.
Year 8 Subject offering for 2025
As soon as we finalise the teaching program and recruiting program for 2025, students and parents will be notified of their course for next year.
Community Contribution
The entire Year 7 cohort from Yarrabing Secondary College spent the last day of Term 2 on an Environment Day excursion to Aintree Reserve. During the 3 hours on site, the students audited 6,000 plants from the 2023 National Tree Day planting to determine the success rate, removed 1,000 stakes and guards from the Themeda Triandra "Kangaroo Grass" planting, and infill planted 500 Kangaroo Grass utilising our new water cart to water them in. Well done to our students, and to all concerned.
