Community and Family Engagement
Weetbix Active Bands
It has been wonderful to see so many students and classes engaging in being active during this Olympic period.
Please see below an excerpt from an email I received from Charlotte at Athletics Australia who are running the Weetbix Active Bands:
'Sending a huge CONGRATULATIONS to all staff and students of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop for honestly setting a record for whole school engagement in a very short period of time. Well done encouraging and supporting your school community to get onboard and get active in the spirit of the Paris Olympics and on the first day of athletics competition!
Here are just a few of your many accomplishments worth celebrating this week:
# student bands registered – 498
# active students (1+ activities logged) – 395
# very active students (50+) – 15
# active LEGENDS (100+) – 5
# Deliverers registered – 33
# Deliverer sessions logged – 88'
This is a great achievement for our school community. Remember that lost or damaged bands can not be replaced unfortunately, so please look after them.
A reminder that the purpose of the bands is to encourage more movement and activity in the children. If your child is doing that even if the band is not working, then the goal is being met!
St Mary MacKillop Feast Day Celebrations
Our feast day celebrations today have been so wonderful and exciting. Students were encouraged to share in the spirit of Mary and 'find happiness in making others happy.' As a result of our 'Three Times Ticket Thursday' raffle ticket bonanza, we have gone through a record number of raffle tickets today for students showing kindness. Congratulations to everyone who was just like Mary on her special day today.
Our liturgy was reverent and punctuated with beautiful singing. Our discos on the other hand, were loud, exciting, filled with dancing and joy!
A big thank you to DJ Junior for the wonderful tunes and lighting set up. Tony is Zane, Mia and Mason's dad from SMCM. Please make sure you get in touch with DJ Junior for your next event and support an SMCM family business.
