From the Principal

Pride and Gratitude

It is with a heart full of pride and gratitude as I reflect on recent achievements and important themes that resonate deeply with our community.

First and foremost, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our senior school students on a spectacular Performing Arts Festival. This year’s theme, "Our Mosaic," encouraged us to celebrate our diversity, creativity, and unity through the performing arts. Congratulations to the McGrath House on their victory, showcasing the exceptional talent and dedication.

To members of Barry, Mulhall, and Ward houses, I want to also acknowledge your hard work, passion, and for embodying the spirit of collaboration and excellence that defines our college community.

The performances at the festival were not just about winning accolades, but about telling stories, evoking emotions, and inspiring all who had the privilege to witness your artistry.

This week it is also important that we pause and recognise World Refugee Week, which carries a poignant message: ‘Our Home’. This message underscores the profound significance of having a place to call home—a place where we feel safe, free to express ourselves, and surrounded by love. For many around the world, the concept of home has been tragically disrupted. Forced to flee their homes due to war, violence, and persecution, these individuals have endured unimaginable hardships in search of a safe home.

The strength and courage of refugees and asylum seekers and their journeys remind us of the fundamental human right to seek asylum and the importance of compassion, understanding, and support for those who have been displaced.

As a college community committed to empathy and inclusivity, we have a responsibility to stand in solidarity with refugees and advocate for a world where everyone can find solace and opportunity - and a home - regardless of one’s background or circumstances.

As we celebrate our successes and acknowledge the challenges faced by others, let us continue to foster an environment at Loreto Marryatville where diversity is celebrated, where kindness and understanding prevail, and where each member of our community feels valued and supported.

And finally…

You will by now have received our 2024 Annual appeal, titled ‘The Gift of Education’ and I thank you for considering and contributing to either the Scholarship Fund:  Gonzaga Barry Bursaries or the Building Fund: Renovation of the Cottar’s Geen Oval. Donations to either of these causes are tax deductible.  Your donation, as appropriate to your circumstances, will make a real difference and will contribute to the transformative power of education here at Loreto College Marryatville.
