School Disco
Our most notable update this fortnight is the everlasting joy of our SCHOOL DISCO on Friday 14 June!! Thank you to Russell Hunt and the many, many WPA volunteers for organising our school disco!!! It was wonderful seeing and hearing the boundless joy in our school hall on Friday evening. The most common reflection I heard was, "This is the best night of my life!"
Peer Mediators
Well done and thank you to Renee Johnson and Damon (peer mediator captain) for conducting the Peer Mediator Training with our 31 peer mediators. They have been making a difference in the yard and supporting student fun, safety, friendship and enjoyment in the yard.
Pride Craft Stall and Bake Sale
Thank you to our Student Pride Club who arranged a bake sale and craft stall to raise money for the raimbow laces project and to donate money to Minus18 Youth. They raised $4,115!! Thank you to all students, staff members and families who supported this great cause which empowers student voice, agency and leadership.
Hon. Melissa Horne MP Visit - Traffic Management and Road Safety
Hon. Melissa Horne MP visited Wembley PS on Friday 14 June, to discuss road safety matters, and to get an update on the Capital Works Project.
Hon. Melissa Horne MP shared that the Department of Transport has approved and funded a change in the traffic signals on the corner of Wembley Avenue and Francis Street, to ensure a pedestrian head start, which will assist in moving towards rectifying some of the safety issues currently present. This will be done in the next fortnight. Melissa understands and is working in partnership with us to continue to work through the blind spots, safety barriers and ongoing concerns on the roads surrounding our schools. I thank the parents and staff members who have shared concerns with us, which I shared with melissa and which will keep our community safe.
Capital Building Works Project
Sadly, over the long weekend there was a significant break in onsite, and copper and data cabling was cut and taken, as well as materials, which will have a 2-3 week delay on the project completion, meaning we will move in, closer to late August rather than the specified date of August 2nd. I was sorry to hear this and to have to share this with our community.
In our most recent site meeting the building team discussed insurance and seeking police reports. They are also looking at having some security and cameras fitted within the site, as our school cameras and residential cameras haven't managed to catch them in the act based on initial checks. Once I have an updated PC (project completion) date, I will update our community.
We have placed a furniture order for the new building for each classroom, learning and specialist space. The furniture is now set to arrive in late August.
We are arranging a Brick Fundraiser which will enable community members to purchase a brick/s which will be placed in a retaining wall and path in stage two of the landscape design, once the existing building is demolished. Watch this space.
