STEM
Every fortnight we will be having a STEM question for students to answer. The questions will be posted in the school's newsletter. These questions will not be compulsory, but will be a bit of fun and a challenge for students. Students can write their answer on a piece of paper and place it in the appropriate box inside the STEM room. At the end of the week Miss Middlin will do a lucky dip and select one student from Prep- 2 will receive a small science related prize. This week's questions are found below:
Learning for this Term
Throughout STEM in Term 1 the Prep to 2 students will focus on Biology. Biology is the study of living things. Over the course of the unit students will focus on studying plants and animals.
Grade Prep students will focus on:
- Classifying living and non living things
- The needs of humans
- Keeping things alive – process and planting and keeping a plant alive
- Space and shelter – making a model of a safe place to play.
Grade 1 and 2 students will focus on:
- representing personal growth and changes to animals and plants from birth
- exploring the different characteristics of the life stages in animals, for example, butterflies or frogs
When exploring the growth of plants, it would be fantastic if your child could please bring in a plastic bottle. A milk carton, soft drink bottle, juice bottle or carton would all be okay.
Nude Food Fridays
On Friday Miss Middlin will be running a Nude Food competition. This competition is aiming to promote sustainability across the school. Nude Food is simply food that is not wrapped in foil, plastic or commercial packaging. On Friday selected students will be allocated a time to survey classes to see how many have brought Nude Food to school. The class with the most students with the most Nude Food will receive the Nude Food Medal for the week.
