INDUSTRY: REIA Marks a Century of Excellence with 2023 Wrap

The Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) has released its "2023 Year in Review" document, providing a comprehensive overview of the activities and achievements of your industry’s peak body.

Key initiatives include:

The implementation of the Getting Real 2.0 policy agenda, focused on increasing housing supply, enhancing cybersecurity, sustainability, and trust in real estate transactions
Partnership ventures, including collaborations with the Australian Tax Office, Regional Australia Institute, and Expression Australia, emphasising inclusivity and digital security.

The document also details extensive research efforts, with reports on housing affordability, rental markets, and commercial real estate, contributing valuable insights to the sector.

LEGISLATION: NSW Strata & Community Land Reforms PMs Need to Know About

31 recommendations from the 2021 review of the Strata Schemes Development Act 2015 & Strata Schemes Management Act 2015 have now been implemented and all NSW property managers need to be aware that:

Property managers have 14 days from signing a rental contract to give:
- A notice of tenancy to the Owners Corporation or Association
- A copy of the by-laws and any strata management statement to the tenant. For residential tenants, the by-laws must be given to the tenant before they sign a rental contract
Property managers must give any updates to by-laws and the strata management statement to the tenant within 14 days

NSW Fair Trading will take an educational approach until 10 March 2024 to give industry time to adjust to some of the changes.

UPSKILLING: Registrations Now Open for FIABCI World Real Estate Congress

The International Real Estate Federation - FIABCI – will host its 74th World Real Estate Congress in Singapore following First National’s Kuala Lumpur Convention, and registration has now opened.

Themed – Real Estate Business in the New Environment – the Congress will focus on how businesses are fast evolving and finding new ways to progress amidst fierce market competition and unexpected new challenges.
