FROM THE PRINCIPAL

As we move confidently into the term, I would like to acknowledge the outstanding spirit shown by our students across a range of recent events.
Annual Swimming Carnival
Our annual Swimming Carnival was a tremendous success. Beyond the ribbons and records, what stood out most was the participation, encouragement and house pride demonstrated throughout the day. I sincerely thank every student who attended and had a go — whether they were chasing records or simply stepping outside their comfort zone. Not everyone needs to be the next Ian Thorpe to contribute meaningfully to a carnival. At Inverell High School, participation, effort and team spirit matter just as much as podium finishes. The positive atmosphere and mutual support displayed by students was something we can all be proud of.
Sport Representation
We also extend our sincere congratulations to Noah P, Koby M, Layla P and Lily W on their selection in their respective Northwest Basketball teams. To be chosen at this level reflects not only talent, but dedication, discipline and a commitment to continual improvement. Representing the region is a significant achievement, and we are incredibly proud of the way these students continue to pursue excellence both on and off the court.
We also wish Hollie W every success in her cricketing journey as she joins the U19 Northwest Team to compete at the CHSA Cricket Championships. This is a wonderful accomplishment and a testament to her versatility, work ethic and passion for sport. We look forward to following her progress and celebrating her achievements.
On Friday, our students also represented the school at Zone Touch Football, competing with determination and sportsmanship. We were equally fortunate to host the Newcastle Knights for a Rugby League Skills afternoon. The session provided our students with high-quality coaching and the opportunity to refine their skills while engaging with elite development pathways. Experiences like these broaden horizons and inspire aspiration.
Lions Youth of the Year Winner
Congratulations to Lilly T on being named Lions Youth of the Year. Lilly completed a formal interview process, delivered two impromptu speeches and presented a five minute prepared speech. Her powerful prepared speech, Bridging the Divide (Equality), demonstrated both depth of thought and strong advocacy for fairness and inclusion. This is a wonderful achievement and a testament to Lilly's leadership, confidence and commitment to making a positive difference. We wish her the best as she progresses through to the Regional Finals in Glen Innes in a few weeks time.
Elevate Study Skills
This week we have welcomed Elevate Education to deliver Study Skills seminars across all year groups. These sessions focus on organisation, effective revision strategies, goal setting and building the habits required for sustained academic success. In addition, our Year 11 students are participating in targeted Artificial Intelligence workshops to strengthen their understanding of emerging technologies and ethical use of AI in senior study.
Day of AI
A particular highlight was our Day of AI Australia, proudly sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank, targeting Aboriginal students in Years 7 and 10. This was a highly successful and empowering initiative, providing hands-on learning experiences and building confidence in digital capability. Ensuring equitable access to future-focused skills is a priority for our school, and opportunities like this help open pathways in technology, innovation and emerging industries.
Keeping Student Details Up to Date
Finally, I remind all families of the importance of keeping student details up to date. If there are any changes to contact information, medical details, emergency contacts or family circumstances, please notify the Front Office as soon as possible. Accurate information ensures we can communicate effectively and respond appropriately should the need arise.
Thank you to our staff, students and families for continuing to work in partnership. When students participate fully — in sport, learning and opportunity — they develop the confidence, resilience and skills that set them up for future success.
As always, we are proud to provide excellent standards in a caring and stimulating environment, and we look forward to another strong and successful week at Inverell High School.
