Holy Cross News

Message from Mrs. Meyer

Dear Families,

We were so excited to begin the year with a few special surprises for our children and families,  a brand-new traffic school painted brightly on the asphalt, new imaginative play buildings, a freshly filled sandpit, and refreshed learning spaces.  With the portables now gone, we’re also enjoying the beautiful, uninterrupted view of the Holy Cross farm, creating a calm and open environment for our community to enjoy.

However, as we all know, the elephant in the room has been the unplanned surprises of closures and relocations. It certainly wasn’t the start to the year any of us had planned, and we recognise the flexibility and patience these directives have required from everyone, students, families and staff alike.

Whilst we have navigated this period together, we have seen incredible resilience and positivity of our community. Our absolute priority has been to ensure that our children can continue learning in the way we know works best for them, with consistency, care, and a strong sense of belonging.

We are incredibly grateful to Mel Daly and St Brigid’s Primary School for so generously welcoming us into their space and supporting us through this transition. Their kindness has made it possible for learning to continue with minimal disruption.

Seeing 120 children arrive ready to learn last week was truly amazing. It speaks volumes about the strength, commitment, and spirit of our families and staff.

Finally, we chose to delay this newsletter to avoid cluttering your inbox during a busy communication period and to give you the most up to date information. Because it is packed with essential updates, we recommend reviewing each section carefully.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and please know that our students and families will always be at the very centre of our work.

Transforming Spaces: A Huge Thank You!

While students were away, our school underwent a major transformation. In addition to

routine upkeep, a committed group of parents worked tirelessly to significantly improve our facilities. We couldn't have done it without them.

We want to formally recognise and thank the "Project Management" of the PFA include Hayley Mazou, Nicole Paola and Kara Chung who have put in an incredible amount of work in coordinating the traffic school works and cubby build, bringing the vision of our SRC to life.

Thank you also to

  • Daniel for managing our summer water supply and ensuring we use our tank water efficiently.
  • The Middlemast,  Paola and Cavanagh Families (our "Pothole Crew") for their hard work on filling some huge holes and cracks to prepare our traffic school site.

  • James for his quick action on plumbing repairs and for installing new safety taps  in the school.
  • Clint for handling our electrical repairs and supporting us through our vital safety compliance checks.
  • The McGregor, Szostak, Traill, Rees, Ward, and James Families for keeping our chickens happy and fed while school everyone was away.

  • Melissa, Aysha, Casey, Ava,  Angelica, Noah, Amelia, plus  Jarrod, Hudson and family, who came to our working bee completing huge jobs including cleaning out the Prayer room, raking about 4 trailer loads of leaves and debris, and spreading and entire truckload of new sand.
  • Mr Drago for repairing the school lawnmower - for those following at home, it was the starter motor!
  • Ranjit Singh for his hard work mowing and whipper snipping the vineyard.

Finally, a special thank you to Mr. Meyer, who spent much of his break supporting school repairs and maintenance. From hours spent shoveling mulch and asphalt to installing new signage for the traffic school, his hard work has been invaluable.

While we’ve made great progress, there is still a lot to do! We will be calling for volunteers over the coming week to help finalize the Traffic School and Imaginative Play areas in preparation for our grand opening in March.

Welcome to our Preps, 2026!

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again... but if you’re one of our Prep students, you don’t just "try"—you absolutely nail it. Twice!

As many of you know, our littlest legends have had the unique experience of starting their school journey two times already this year. Our Preps have shown us all exactly how it’s done.

Resilience Champions: If there were an Olympic sport for "Bouncing Back," our Preps would be taking home the gold, silver, and bronze.

We are incredibly proud of our newest community members. If you see a Prep student (or their very tired but proud parents) in the yard, give them a high-five!

Welcome BBQ - Sun & a Sausage Sizzle!

What a way to kick off the school year! We couldn't have asked for a better afternoon for our Welcome BBQ, where over 60 members of our community gathered to reconnect. The skies stayed uncharacteristaclly clear for a Holy Cross event, gifting us a perfect, sun-drenched afternoon. A huge thank you to our teachers for manning the BBA and to the PFA for the great selection of drinks.

On the evening we also shared our Meet the Teacher board, to help families get to know our new and current staff.  We will be featuring this in the newsletter each week to help you get to know the faces behind the classrooms a little better. It was wonderful to see so many new and familiar faces settling into the term—here’s to a fantastic year ahead!

Building Grant & Site Upgrades: Progress Update

Gallery Image

We know many of you are eager for news regarding our building grant! We are continuing to work closely with our team of architects and engineers on the upcoming refurbishment and drainage upgrades.

Last Friday, we reviewed the new drainage design plans and are thrilled with the direction of the project. As part of these initial works, the portables have now been removed. We are currently aiming for a completion date before school recommences in  2027. We will keep you updated as we reach new milestones.

All students attending Holy Cross Primary School have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a fundamental responsibility of all within our school.
