What's Happening in the Senior School

Year 5
What’s Happening in Year 5 in March
We are excited to be back for another year. We hope you all had an enjoyable summer.
We will be running our start-up program to build relationships and spend time learning about each other.
The Year 5 students enjoyed a highly successful camp at Sovereign Hill, filled with hands‑on learning and unforgettable experiences. Throughout the trip, students stepped back in time to explore life on the goldfields, tried their hand at panning for gold and took part in engaging workshops. Their enthusiasm and teamwork were on display through each activity, making the camp both educational and rewarding. A big thank‑you to the staff and parent helpers who supported the adventure and helped create lasting memories for our students.
The You Tell Us interviews that were held in Week 3 were really beneficial for the Teaching team in Year 5 in gaining a deeper understanding of our students. We really appreciate the attendance of all parents and guardians.
Interschool sport began last week in Week 4. Students had a great time representing Beaumaris PS in this style of competition.
NAPLAN will be completed in the coming weeks, and the students have been working hard to prepare for this. We are really impressed with the commitment of the students so far in 2026.
This year, we are encouraging students to transport their library and take-home books in a Beaumaris Primary School Reading satchel. If you already have one at home, please send it to school as soon as possible. If not, they are available for purchase from the office ($12).

Year 6
What’s Happening in Year 6 in March
Our Year 6 students had an incredible time on camp in the beautiful Peninsula! From exciting outdoor challenges in open water to engaging team-building activities, they embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, courage and outstanding teamwork. It was wonderful to see them supporting one another, stepping outside their comfort zones and creating memories that will last a lifetime. What an amazing way to start the year!
Back at school, they enjoyed a lovely afternoon connecting with their Prep buddies during our annual Teddy Bear Picnic. This special tradition continues to foster leadership, kindness and a strong sense of community across year levels.
We have also introduced student diaries to help keep track of important dates and encourage responsibility, including recording daily reading. It’s fantastic to see students beginning to develop the organisation and positive learning habits that will support a smooth transition to secondary school.
Wellbeing
Year 6 students will continue to learn valuable strategies to problem-solve in relationships and peer connections. By practising these skills, they develop the confidence to handle social challenges independently and responsibly. They will also concentrate on the Beaumaris Primary value of Respect, emphasising the importance of valuing diverse viewpoints, listening actively, and fostering positive, respectful interactions.
Literacy
Students will continue reading Us Mob Walawurru, using the text to guide meaningful discussions around inclusion, identity and respect. Through a range of literacy activities, students are building their comprehension skills and deepening their understanding of the novel’s themes.
Students will also continue developing their grammar knowledge and enhancing their handwriting through regular, focused practice, supporting clear and effective written communication.
Maths
Year 6 students will explore prime, composite, square, and triangular numbers, developing a strong understanding of these key mathematical concepts. They will then apply their knowledge to solve problems involving these types of numbers. Following this, students will focus on mastering operations and the correct order of operations to ensure accuracy in more complex calculations.
Knowledge Unit
For our Knowledge Unit wiht a History focus, Year 6 students will explore the history of human rights throughout the 20th century, with a particular focus on women's and Indigenous rights. They will examine key events and movements that shaped the fight for equality and justice throughout this time period.
