What is Data Hack High?

Data Hack High is a statewide challenge aligned to the new Enterprise Computing syllabus, focusing on data science and data visualisation.

Students are presented with real-world problems supplied by industry and government agencies and are required to analyse authentic datasets to develop innovative digital solutions.

The event includes:

  • A live data hack-a-thon
  • Industry mentoring
  • Data interpretation and analysis
  • Development of a digital solution
  • A three-minute video pitch submission

Students worked in teams to interpret large datasets, identify patterns and trends, and design a solution that addressed a clearly defined civic challenge.

The Challenge

Our students participated in the official hack-a-thon held at Parramatta, alongside schools from across NSW.

Following the event, teams had two weeks to refine their data story and produce a professional video submission outlining:

  • Their interpretation of the problem
  • The datasets used
  • Their analytical process
  • A proposed digital solution (prototype, campaign or system-based solution)
  • Key insights and reflections

Why This Matters

The Data Hack High Challenge is designed to mirror industry practice and directly supports the Enterprise Computing syllabus focus areas of data science and data visualisation, skills that underpin the Year 12 HSC major project.

Through this competition, our students demonstrated:

  • Advanced data analysis skills
  • Critical and computational thinking
  • Collaborative teamwork
  • Professional communication
  • Creative problem-solving
  • Confidence in presenting technical solutions

Their winning entry showcased not only technical excellence but also a strong understanding of how data can be used to create meaningful change in communities.

A Remarkable Achievement

Competing against schools across NSW, our Year 11 students rose to the challenge and delivered an innovative, evidence-based solution that impressed industry mentors and judges alike.

This achievement highlights:

  • The strength of our Enterprise Computing program
  • The dedication and talent of our students
  • Our commitment to authentic, real-world learning opportunities

Congratulations to our outstanding Year 11 Enterprise Computing class for representing Beverly Hills Girls High School with excellence, professionalism and creativity.

We look forward to seeing how these talented young women continue to innovate and lead in the future of technology and data science.

Well done! — you have made our school community incredibly proud!
