Teaching And Learning

Literacy
What an exciting start to the term we have had. It has been great to see students getting settled into their new classrooms and familiarising themselves with their new libraries.
This week, students will be bringing home books to commence their Home Reading. We highly encourage students to be reading every night, whether it be a book from school or one of their favourites from home. Students may then fill in their diary themselves or have a sibling or grown up read it. Watch this space for some upcoming Home Reading incentives!
Numeracy
It has been wonderful to see all of our students return and engage in their love of Numeracy. This week, students have been learning new numeracy games designed to support their number skills and develop mathematical fluency. They have thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on learning activities, and we will be sharing some of these games so they can also be played at home by all members of the family. A highlight this week in Year 3 and 4 was ‘Chasing the Magic Number’.
High Ability Program
Some identified students in Years 5 & 6 have started their lessons in the Victorian High Ability Program (VHAP) with Virtual Schools Victoria last week. Students are identified by the Department of Education and invited to participate in the program in either Maths or Literacy. As a part of this program, student's logon once a week to a lesson with other students from around Victoria and work with a teacher to extend their learning in their chosen subject. It also looks like a lot of fun!
As well as attending their lesson each week, students' complete homework and even access additional extension work at home. They are certainly working very hard.
Well done VHAP students!
