Student Learning

Foundation Term 1
Our Foundation students have lots to be proud of so far this term! They have settled into classroom routines, created new connections with their peers and teachers and engaged in lots of learning experiences in the classroom.
In Reading and Writing, students are beginning to explore letters and sounds and will be learning new letters each week. This week we are beginning Sounds Write in our Literacy Block, where they will learn to blend sounds together and begin to read and build words. Students will also begin predicting by looking at the pictures on the front cover and sharing their favourite part after listening to a story. In Writing, students will begin learning to write letters of the alphabet accurately and speak in full sentences.
In Numeracy, we have been using a range of hands-on materials to help us count a collection and represent numbers in different ways. Students have been introduced to our ‘100 Days of School’ displays in our classrooms and will be practising tracing and writing numbers on their Write and Wipes and making numbers using playdough and other materials.
In Integrated Studies, we will be discussing how we are all unique and special in our own way. We will be discussing our names and that there may be a specific reason why we were given our names from our parents. Students will also be thinking about the different communities they belong to such as family, friends, school, sporting teams etc.
Year 1
Our Year 1 students have made a wonderful transition back to school this week, it is hard to believe they were Foundation students just last year! We have enjoyed getting to know one another and making ourselves familiar with our new classrooms. One of the highlights was unpacking our book packs and preparing our brand-new pencil cases! We are looking forward to an amazing term with the Year 1s!
