Principal's Message

Term 1 Week 4 20 February 2026
From the Principal
Hi Everyone,
It was lovely to get to celebrate our 2026 Student Leaders receiving their badges this week at our Student Leader Investiture ceremony. I see leadership in our children everywhere I look here at Ironside State School, so to be elected to represent and lead is an impressive achievement. Thank you to our special guests who joined us, Councillor Penny Wolff and the principal of Indooroopilly State High School, Ms Sheena Miller. Councillor Wolff also organised certificates from the Brisbane City Council and special Brisbane City badges; what a lovely keepsake. Thank you also to Mr Thomas Corbett who organised our Student Leader Investiture. I look forward to working with all our leaders this year, congratulations again!
Following on from this, next week, our school captains are getting to go to the GRIP Leadership Conference, which will be an opportunity for them to grow their leadership knowledge and understanding. I know our captains are looking forward to this opportunity.
Our Student Council have also begun their 2026 journey in earnest and have been out gathering the ‘Student Voice’ right across school through student forums and feedback sessions. It is so wonderful to watch this active citizenship playing out in our school - top work Student Council!
There were AFL and Netball Trials on this week, and I know that some of our children were selected. Well done to every one of our children who had a go and tried out and huge congratulations to those children who have been selected, you must be very excited and proud.
Our school is part of a Collaborative School Improvement team, along with Indooroopilly State School, Rainworth State School and Ashgrove State School. We are gathering for our first catch-up for 2026, next Tuesday at Ashgrove State School. As the name suggests, we work together as colleagues, analysing what we are doing to bring the next level of improvement to our school. I feel very privileged to work with this team.
Our first P&C Meeting for the year is next Tuesday, the 24 February at 6:30pm in our staff room. Please, please come and join us! The P&C makes a HUGE difference in our school. I hope to see you there!
Don’t forget, if you did miss our Parent Information sessions, here is a link to my section and your classroom teachers emailed out the PowerPoints of what they presented.
I am going to send out the calendar for the year very soon. Can I please ask you to remember that sometimes things change. I have done my best with what I know now. Please always check our calendar here in the newsletter each week though because we make sure it is updated.
Mrs Griffin, Mr Corbett and myself are going to a professional development session on Monday, along with a few of our teachers. We are always grateful for opportunities to learn. I would like to thank Mrs Shelley Lee for being the Principal on Monday.
Have a safe and wonderful week!
Yours in Education
Angie Kelly
