Auslan
Grades 1 and 2
This week in Auslan, students will be learning and practicing colour signs through songs, games and movement activities. Students will work on recognising and signing colours, and asking and answering simple questions. We’re continuing to practice our visual attention skills to converse and follow instructions in Auslan.
Grades 3 and 4
In Week 4, students will continue building their classroom language by learning to give and follow instructions in Auslan. Through role play and interactive games, students will practice signing clear directions and carefully watching to follow their peers’ instructions. This will help to strengthen both their expressive and receptive Auslan skills.
Grades 5 and 6
This week in Auslan, the grade 6 students will focus on giving clear, step-by-step instructions to their peers. Students will work together in small groups to plan and present instructions for completing everyday tasks, practicing their sequential signs and appropriate facial expression to communicate meaning clearly in Auslan.
Performing Arts
Senior Choir (Level 3-6)
We had our first choir rehearsal for the year last week. Rehearsals take place at Thursday lunch playtime. If your child is interested in attending please encourage them to attend our next rehearsal in the performing arts room.
Our first performance of the year will be at Warrandyte Festival on Saturday March 28th. Information will be sent to families of students who are part of the choir in the coming weeks.
State School Spectacular - Grade 4 Special Opportunity
A reminder to Grade 4 families that we currently have an 'Expression of Interest' process open for students who would like to be involved in this year’s State School Spectacular. We have just a handful of places available in our Mass Choir, joining our Grade 5/6 students in what is a very special opportunity.
Please carefully review the information shared via Sentral last week before submitting your application using this link. Applications will be reviewed during this week, so we encourage families to submit their EOI as soon as possible.
In the Classroom:
Prep classes will continue focusing on keeping a steady beat, further exploring the musical element of tempo (fast and slow) through songs, movement activities and playing percussion instruments.
In Years 1 and 2, students will continue to be inspired by figure skating in the Winter Olympics. They will further explore movement concepts such as matching and mirroring, while also using their paper plate “ice skates” to play rhythms and songs, along with other winter-themed music.
Students in Years 3–6 will continue their bucket drumming unit. This week, the focus will be on using the different sounds of the bucket to create and perform an ostinato (repeated musical phrases), incorporating dynamics, and learning rhythms to play along with a song.
Across the whole school, all classes will continue learning and practising Count on Me, which we will perform together later in the term as a celebration of our CBL Big Idea of Community.
Visual Arts
Prep
Students will be putting together their self-portrait from last week, adding rainbow details to the border of their work.
They will also continue painting with warm or cool colours in lines of different sizes, creating an artwork inspired by Yayoi Kusama.
Grade 1/2
Students will be finishing their mushroom from last week, adding the final touches of plasticine to their work, including dot details on the stem and cap.
Grade 3/4
Students will be continuing to decorate their chair bags, adding name details, sponge painting designs and drawing elements that reflect their personality.
Grade 5
Students will be adding to their layered painting, this week sponging stencil designs onto their canvas.
They will also practise drawing mushrooms and use coloured papers to collage a series of mushrooms to stick onto their ‘net’ background from last week.
Grade 6
Students will be adding to their layered painting, this week sponging stencil designs onto their canvas.
They will also be practising to draw pumpkins of different shapes and sizes. They will choose their favourite and transfer it onto coloured paper and add spots of various sizes, inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s artwork.

Physical Education
Inter School Sport – Grade 5 & 6
Our Grade 5 and 6 students are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Interschool Sport Gala Days on Tuesday, March 3 and Tuesday, March 10. Team selections have been finalised, and students have been training hard. It has been wonderful to see their dedication, teamwork, and positive sportsmanship as they get ready for competition. This week in PE…
Prep
This week, our Prep students will build on their growing understanding of routines and expectations in Physical Education. After continuing to practise moving safely in shared spaces and responding quickly to signals such as stopping on the whistle, students will begin applying their fundamental motor skills in new and exciting ways.
As we introduce simple relay-style activities, students will practise key skills including running, jumping, balancing, and controlled stopping. Through these fun team-based activities, they will learn how to take turns, wait for a signal, move with awareness of others, and complete a task before tagging the next teammate. These experiences help strengthen coordination, spatial awareness, and confidence.
The focus remains on developing fundamental motor skills while encouraging teamwork, positive participation, and enjoyment of movement in a supportive environment.
Grade 1 & 2
This week, our Grade 1 and 2 students will have the opportunity to demonstrate the overarm throwing skills they have been learning. Students will be assessed on the key components of the technique, including a side-on stance, stepping with the opposite foot, and following through towards their target. Through small activities and simple games, they will show their ability to throw with improved accuracy, control and confidence.
Grade 3 & 4
Students in Grades 3 and 4 will demonstrate their understanding and execution of correct overarm throwing technique during assessment activities. The focus will be on accuracy, consistency, power, and maintaining correct body positioning and follow-through. Students will apply their skills in modified game situations, allowing them to showcase effective decision-making, teamwork, and skill execution under pressure.
Grade 5 & 6
This week, our Grade 5 and 6 students will be assessed on their ability to apply accurate and controlled throwing in dynamic, game-based scenarios. They will demonstrate strong technique, thoughtful decision-making about when and where to pass, and the ability to maintain precision in competitive situations. Emphasis will also be placed on teamwork, communication, and strategic play as students showcase the skills they have developed.
STEM
Grade 1 & 2
Students are exploring animals and the habitats in which they live, building on their understanding of how living things depend on their environment to meet their needs. They are investigating a range of habitats including forests, deserts, ponds, oceans, grasslands, and rainforests, and identifying the features of each environment. Through hands-on sorting tasks and class discussions, students are matching animals to suitable habitats and explaining how these environments provide food, water, shelter, and space.
Grade 3 & 4
This week, students are investigating the impact of introduced predators on Australian ecosystems. They are exploring examples such as foxes and cats, and examining how these animals affect native species and food chains. Through case studies and discussion, students are considering why introduced species can cause imbalance in ecosystems and what strategies are used to manage their populations.
Grade 5 & 6
Students are developing their understanding of evolution and how species change over time. They are exploring how inherited traits that improve survival and reproduction can become more common in a population across generations. Through examples and modelling activities, students are examining how environmental pressures influence which traits are passed on to offspring. This learning supports students to understand that evolution is a gradual process that explains the diversity of living things on Earth.
