INFORMATION

Parent Reps for Prep A and Prep C

Each grade requires two parents to act as Parent Reps. Thank you so much to the parents who have already volunteered - your support is greatly appreciated! Prep B now has two Parent Reps, but Prep A and Prep C are still looking for one more parent each. If you are interested, please let us know. And remember ...  having two Parent Reps means you can share the role and support each other - you don't have to do it alone!

🚽 Toilets

We will be starting our learning at 9am from this week onwards. To help the day begin smoothly, we would appreciate your support in encouraging and reminding your child to use the toilet during the 10 minutes before school starts, as the roll isn’t marked until 9am. We also have a small request for parents of boys - using a urinal may be a new experience, so practising how to use it with the correct etiquette can be very helpful. Thank you for your assistance with this!

CURRICULUM

From this week, we will begin our learning at 9am, when students are feeling fresh and ready for the day. Our play-based time will move to the afternoon, which is a more natural time for students to slow down and have a restful break.

📚 Phonics and reading

We are learning about the letters S and T.

Our learning focus will include:

  • Understanding the phonemes (the sound each letter makes)
  • Learning the cued articulation for these sounds
  • Identifying where we might see each letter in a word
  • Practising the graphemes (the way we write the letter), including correct letter formation

What can you do at home?

• Look for the letters S and T on signs, labels and in books.

•Ask your child to tell you the sounds that S and T make, and to show you the cued articulation for each sound.

• Enjoy bedtime stories together to build vocabulary, comprehension and a love of reading.

📝 Literature: reading responses and writing

Our mentor text is Edward the Emu by Sheena Knowles. We have chosen this text to support our CBL learning about understanding our strengths. Students will explore key story elements such as character and setting, and they will learn about plot by identifying the beginning, middle and end (linking this to our maths language of first, next, and last). They will also reflect on their own personal strengths and the qualities that make them unique.

In writing, students will be focusing on developing their fine motor control. They will practise using a functional pencil grip while forming the letters S and T, paying attention to correct entry and exit points.

🏡 What can you do at home?

•Practice letter formation of S and T using crayons, pencils, or even finger tracing in sand.

•Provide activities that build hand strength and coordination, such as playing with playdough, threading beads or using tweezers to pick up small objects.

🔢  Maths

We are continuing our learning about Time, focusing on weekdays and weekends, as well as sequencing familiar events. Later in the week, we will begin exploring counting and place value by counting collections forwards and backwards and practising accurate 1–1 correspondence.

🏡  What can you do at home?

• Talk about your daily routine together (eg. “First we have breakfast, next we get dressed…”) and highlight what you do on weekdays versus weekends.

• Count everyday objects with your child (eg. toys, steps) and touch/move each item as you count to practise 1–1 correspondence.

💛 Wellbeing

Our SWPBS focus this week is Be a Learner, with an emphasis on asking for help. In Respectful Relationships, students will learn that people feel good when others like them for who they are. They will explore ways to show respect for others, including people who are different, and learn to appreciate and celebrate their own unique qualities.

🏡  What can you do at home?

•Remind your child that it’s okay to ask questions or seek support when they need it.

•Talk about how everyone is unique and highlight ways to show kindness and respect to people who may be different to them.
