In Term 3, the Student Voice Team will be engaging with the ‘Teach the Teacher’ Program. This program is run by the Victorian Student Representative Council (VicSRC: https://vicsrc.org.au/) – the peak body representing school-aged students in Victoria. The Teach the Teacher Program aims to engage students in decision making and to prepare a professional learning session for their teachers. So far, the Student Voice Team has completed their first session where we learned about what student voice and agency means within schools, and brainstormed about areas within the school where we would like to see improvement made. This brainstorming will form the basis for the professional learning that we plan out in future sessions with VicSRC.
The end goal is to see teachers and students working together to improve our school and learning environment. In Week 7 of Term 3, the Student Voice Team will run the professional learning session that we’ve planned with the whole staff during their usual Monday afternoon meeting timeslot. Watch this space to hear about what we taught our teachers!
