Year 9 Dance Elective - Perform for Junior College Year 6 Students

On Thursday 24 July, the Year 9 Dance Elective class presented Assessment Task 2 – a collaborative dance work developed as part of their study of safe dance practice. This performance offered students the opportunity to translate theory into practice, demonstrating their understanding of anatomical structure and how it informs movement execution.

Year 6 students were invited to attend the performance as audience members, fostering a connection between the Junior School and the Senior School. It was also a wonderful chance for the Year 9 students to showcase their learning and performance skills to our school community.

Although this was an assessable task, it was evident that the Year 9 class thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Their hard work and dedication in choreographing and rehearsing the piece were reflected in their confident and expressive performances.

The event concluded with a Q&A session between the two year groups. The Year 6 students had the opportunity to ask questions, gaining valuable insight into what life is like in high school, as well as learning more about the dance elective itself.

I am incredibly proud of the Year 9 Dance class – it was a truly lovely celebration of dance and learning.

Year 11 Drama – Script Read-Through

The best thing about Drama is that students get to learn through practical experiences.

The Year 11 Drama students are currently studying Australian theatre. The class has been working collaboratively through a reading of the text Summer of the Seventeenth Doll. I had the pleasure of attending this class earlier this week and was able to watch them take ownership of their learning.

The students took on the roles of director, actor, and audience member—setting the performance space appropriately for the play and utilising the stage lights. Each student embodied a character, giving them the opportunity to further develop their performance skills by making thoughtful vocal and movement choices to communicate their characters effectively.

This hands-on approach will provide practical examples for students to reference in their final essays. Their arguments will be supported by real experiences from their performances and class observations.

The students were supportive of each other and shared plenty of laughs—what a fun and engaging lesson!
