Around the Primary Classes

The big opening of our Louisa Centre!

It's been an exciting start to Term 3 for our young learners! Our Kindergarten and Prep students have officially moved into their brand new, purpose-built classroom, and what a fantastic start they've had!

The air has been buzzing with curiosity as the children explore their spacious new environment. From bright new learning resources to dedicated areas for creative play, it has been wonderful to see them embracing their new space with such enthusiasm. As we continue to establish new routines, our students have amazed us with their ability to adapt and embrace the changes with enthusiasm.

We extend a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making this incredible new building a reality. It's truly a wonderful asset for our school community!

Japanese Calligraphy Success

At the end of Term 2, all Year 5 and 6 students participated in the statewide Calligraphy Competition run by Japanese Teacher's Network of Tasmania.  There were 2 categories - brush and pencil/pen.  We are thrilled to announce that in each category, students from Mount Carmel College received third place.  Congratulations Emmy and Shanaya!

Checkmate!

At the end of Term 2, a small group of primary students participated in an all-day interschool Chess Tournament held at the Hutchins School and run by Black Square Chess. Every student's strategy skills were put to the test, each playing seven competitive rounds. It was fantastic to see such a high level of focus, good sportsmanship and a great sense of fun throughout the day.

ELC Play in Nature!

In recent weeks, our Early Years students have been blessed with a gorgeously sunny winter weather for their Nature Play sessions.

Our ELC students had a wonderful time at their session last week, eagerly exploring the creek and creatively enjoying their surrounds.

July Holiday Program

We had two action-packed weeks full of fun, laughter, and amazing adventures!

One afternoon, a family brought in their two friendly dogs for a special visit. The children were thrilled to pat them, ask questions, and learn all about being a great pet owner. The dogs soaked up the attention and loved every second!

We also had an awesome Lego Day! Each child picked their own Lego kit and a builder’s hat to match. Some couldn’t wait to get building right away, while others took their sets home to continue the fun.

Our gymnastics session was full of energy — the children climbed, jumped, flipped and balanced their way through exciting stations, building confidence and having a blast!

Creativity took center stage with our tote bag decorating session. Armed with fabric markers, paints, and stencils, the children designed colourful bags that were as unique as they are. They were so proud of their creations and couldn’t wait to show them off!

And let’s not forget our trip to Eastside Squash Centre! We split into groups and rotated through courts packed with fun games and challenges. There was non-stop action and plenty of smiles all around.

And the best part? This is just some of what we got up to — there was so much more fun, laughter, and creativity throughout the holidays!

An Inspiring Visit from Author Jacqueline Harvey

On Tuesday 29 July, our Years 3 - 6 students had the absolute delight of welcoming the much-loved author Jacqueline Harvey. Best known for her hit series Alice-MirandaClementine Rose, and Kensy and Max, Jacqueline has captured the imaginations of young readers worldwide.

Jacqueline gave a fun and engaging author talk, filling the room with laughter and excitement from start to finish. She shared how many of her story ideas come from everyday life, funny things that happen, curious moments she observes, and interesting people she meets. These small sparks, she explained, often grow into the books her readers love.

With warmth and humour, Jacqueline brought her storytelling process to life. She reminded students that their own lives are full of great stories waiting to be told. Our students were captivated by Jacqueline’s energy and enthusiasm.

A heartfelt thank you to Jacqueline Harvey for sharing her stories, her wisdom, and her infectious love of writing with us.
