German Model UN Conference 2025

On Wednesday, 23rd July, a group of 20 German students from Uni High went to the Model UN Conference in North Melbourne. The students, from Years 8 to 12, participated with several other Melbourne schools. Students were in groups of 2 to 4, representing countries from around the world. The day aimed to discuss how countries could prevent world hunger. Each delegation started the day by making a speech about their countries' stance on the issue by referring to a draft resolution document. This took a lot of prior research to understand each country and also use the German language as the medium.
In the second part of the day, the "countries" discussed the draft resolutions and debated certain points. One of the Uni High countries, made up of Arlo (Year 12), Alice (Year 12), Jack (Year 9) and Levi (Year 8), called for a double in the percentage of aid from each country. After lunch, each amendment was debated, and a majority of "countries" voted for the amendment to increase the percentage of aid proposed by our Uni High students!
The Model UN was a rich learning experience for our German students with lots of listening practice and a bit of speaking practice. It also gave students an opportunity to work with students from other year levels and other schools. Well done to all the students who attended.
