Year 9 Visual Communication Design
Year 9 Visual Communication Design students last semester applied their learnings about Visual Language to complete a folio designing their own Wall Calendars for the year 2026. Students used a range of different media, such as markers and pencils, to explore design ideas for each month of the year. The challenge, however, was that they were only permitted to use two colours, in addition to black and white.
From this exploration, they identified the most appropriate design ideas that answered the design criteria in the Design Brief and re-created them in Adobe Illustrator. Finally, as part of their refinement process, students digitally organised their design ideas using gridding and the Design Principles of Hierarchy and Proportion to give their Wall Calendars a professional finish. Please take a look at their great design idea pages and design solutions.

Student Success at Aerochallenge 2025!
We’re proud to celebrate the achievements of over 20 Nazareth College students who competed in the Aerochallenge (Aerobics and AeroDANCE) on Sunday 29 June, hosted at our College. The event welcomed schools from across Victoria for a high-energy day of performance and school spirit.
Many of our students competed for the first time, delivering polished, confident routines on stage before a live audience and panel of judges. Their teamwork, dedication, and enthusiasm were on full display, and the results were outstanding - with most teams placing 1st or 2nd in their divisions.
A big congratulations to all participants for representing Nazareth with pride and passion. If you see them around the school, be sure to congratulate them on their success!
Special thanks to teachers Ms Mish Mackay, Mr Josh Cowan, Ms Tessa Houlihan and Ms Caitlin Trustum for attending and supporting our performers - you helped make the day even more special.
Well done, team Nazareth!

Japanese Cooking Sessions
What better way to finish Semester 1 Japanese than cooking lunch!
On Thursday 3 and Friday 4 July, Year 8 Japanese and VCE Japanese students had the opportunity to try the popular Japanese dish, okonomiyaki (Japanese savoury pancake).
Before the tasting, Year 8 students explored the two cities most famous for this dish—Osaka and Hiroshima—and compared their regional variations. They then learned about the typical ingredients and toppings used in okonomiyaki, and how the cooking styles differ depending on the region.
To finish the session, students learned how to place the topping and then enjoyed tasting one—or sometimes several—slices! Mrs Yoshida’s class also made rice balls and miso soup to go with their pancakes.
Well done to everyone for working together to make a yummy Japanese lunch! Big thank you to Nibun-sensei and Yoshida-sensei for your hard work preparing and cooking.
