TLI and High Ability @HEPS

The Centre for Higher Education Studies
The Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES) is a new centre of excellence designed to further improve educational outcomes for high-achieving and high-ability students across Victoria. CHES provides accelerated programs for senior students from government secondary schools. Recently, they have been investigating and exploring how these opportunities can filter down to primary schools. Many of our staff at HEPS have attended professional learning/development provided by CHES, helping us to strengthen our practice in and around differentiation and point of need learning - not just the high-ability space.
The CHES Professional Learning Community (PLC) offers a vibrant and supportive space for Department of Education staff to connect, share expertise, and engage in professional dialogue around evidence-informed teaching and learning. Part of their ethos is to engage families and the community that students are part of. Many of the seminars that we share here are through this particular channel.

Tutoring and Learning Enhancement
Mrs Haddad and I are so honoured and privileged to work along side those students who attend TLI or Learning Enhancement. Both programs provide for students a wonderful opportunity to focus their learning and target growth areas (or points of need).
We thought we would share some of the students experiences from these two programs.
I have learnt that there's more place value like 10000's, 100000's
I enjoy playing the game of Word Snap with Mrs Haddad
I have learnt about the plot - it is what happens in the story
We get stickers for doing good things
I have learnt about maths even though we do reading
I like learning with Mrs Haddad
I enjoyed learning about tenths, hundredths
We get to learn how to write well
I enjoy playing Word Bingo
I enjoyed learning about 10000's and numbers
I enjoyed learning about decimals which also goes with money
I enjoy the Flash cards - there are some words I have trouble with and it helps me
