Level 5

Celebrations from the Week
This week has been filled with wonderful moments:
- Science Week: Our students faced off against teachers in a tower-building challenge. Congratulations to our 5/6 students for constructing the tallest tower!
- Book Week: Students showcased their creativity by dressing up as their favourite book characters. We were thrilled to host Sarah Speedie, an author, who inspired students with stories about becoming an author and engaging activities centered around her book, Meowster Chef.
- Kinder Visits: The 4-year-old Kinder kids from Heathmont East Preschool visited 5BF and 5KL, helping to foster meaningful connections through making and creating their ideal pet.
What We Are Learning
In our classes, we have been diving deep into some engaging topics:
- Reading: We have been exploring Synthesising while learning about different biomes. This knowledge supports our Inquiry topic of Change, particularly focusing on the adaptations that animals and plants have made to survive in their respective biomes.
- Writing: Students are currently learning how to write Explanations. They have been introduced to the structure and language features, and they are now in the editing and publishing phases of the writing process. As part of Book Week, students also participated in shared story writing.
- Mathematics: Our focus has been on Probability, where students are using descriptive language related to likelihood, fractions, and percentages. They are also conducting chance experiments to practice this new vocabulary.
- Inquiry: We have been studying how animals adapt to environments impacted by humans, highlighted by the classic example of the Pepper Moth. Students took on the challenge of creating their own Pepper Moth, adapted for our classroom environments.
