Geography Fieldwork

Every year, the Year 10 Geography classes go to Cronulla to undertake their mandatory fieldwork for the unit of work on Environmental Change and Management. This semester, Ms Truong, Ms Al Ali, Mr Collins and Ms McCormick took 10G, 10M, 10R and 10Y.
On the day, students examined both the physical (natural) and built (human) environments and the impact these environments are having on the coastal area.
Students also witnessed and assessed the effectiveness of hard and soft engineering strategies used to manage the coastal environments at Cronulla, Elouera, and Wanda Beaches. They trekked up the Kurnell sand dunes to see how the dunes have been managed over time.
Sitting on the Wanda Beach helipad, students used a range of geographical tools like anemometers, hygrometers, thermometers and light meters to survey environmental conditions on the day. They also practised their field sketching skills.
Students ended the day enjoying their lunch on the promenade.
All students will be utilising the knowledge from this fieldwork trip in their first assessment task in Geography.
