PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Our whole school has begun their focus on Basketball!

Our middle and senior students are preparing for their much anticipated Hooptime day where they will be placed into Basketball teams and play a round robin with others schools. Skills we have been developing include dribbling under pressure, passing to the appropriate teammate as well as switching from offence to defense.

In our junior school, we are beginning to develop our confidence when bouncing the ball with one hand and practising dribbling at a fast and slow pace. Furthermore, some of our experienced students have been loving the challenge of dribbling with their non dominant hand!

LOTE - AUSLAN

The beginning of the term was filled with plenty of revision of previously learnt topics to ensure that we are ready to learn new knowledge.

We are moving into a whole school focus on Numbers and Money.

Students are exploring signing about going shopping and what items they will buy for a certain price.

Term 3 week 3

Welcome back to a cold and blustery term 3! This term we are looking at Chemical Science!

We have begun the term with a NAIDOC whole school activity. OPS is involved in the Cardinia Network Koori Community of Practice. Every year we work with many schools in our network to create an artwork around NAIDOC Week. This year we learnt about a young indigenous artist called Billy Reynolds, who from a very young age has created stunning artworks including creating NRL jerseys displaying his passion. Students created an indigenous inspired painting on a rock which has been arranged into the letter R as part of the theme of NAIDOC Week. It looks stunning and the rocks will be placed in our Centenary courtyard for all to enjoy.

The Juniors are exploring the topic of Materials and are identifying that a material is a substance something is made of. Examples of materials include paper, metal, glass, fabric, plastic and wood. These materials also have different properties that make them suitable for different purposes. We have explored and manipulated examples of these materials and have developed our descriptive language to be able to talk about them clearly. Hard, soft, heavy, light, strong and fragile are some of these descriptions.

The Seniors have been investigating what Matter is and have created some clear definitions and descriptions of the Three States of Matter. They have explored and developed their understanding of atoms, particles and the space between them. They have also begun to develop their understnding of how heat can change matter from a solid to a liquid and back again.
