Principal's Desk

From Ms Nicole Smith

Good afternoon OPS families,

OPS has gotten off to a fantastic start for Term 3. We have lots of fantastic events and activities planned for the term ahead. We started the term off with receiving our 2025 NAPLAN results. All individual results were sent home last week, if you did not receive your student's individual results please contact the office. We were able to share our outstanding group results for reading, writing and numeracy for Grade 3 and 5 in a compass post last week and we have now received our growth data which is outstanding. The growth data looks at the results from the Grade 5 NAPLAN assessments and measures how much the students have improved from their Grade 3 results, as you can see below the results are excellent. As a staff we feel that results like these are worthy of a whole school Hot Chip Lunch to celebrate. We will be having this on Friday 15th August- More information will be posted on Compass.

Book Week is quickly approaching, 16th- 23rd of August, and we are all super excited to celebrate our favourite books, authors and illustrators.  The theme for 2025 is 'Book an Adventure' and we have lots of fantastic 'adventures' planned for the week. We will have Grandparents Day on the 20th August, the Annual Book Week Parade on Thursday 21st August and Book Fair will run from the 18th - 23rd August. More information and details about these events will come out over the next week but remember to save the dates.

At Officer Primary we love celebrating the great learning and engagement that happens every day in our classrooms with our families. During Term 3 the staff will be starting to use Positive Posts on compass to share and celebrate student learning and engagement with families.

WHAT IS A POSITIVE POST? A Positive Post is a post on your child's compass profile that celebrates when your child has done an amazing job demonstrating one of our GROWTH Values in class or in the yard- sometimes it will be a comment, other times the positive post may include a photo. As teachers we always give the students positive feedback in the classroom and yard, we are simply extending this feedback to celebrate with families.

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN MY CHILD HAS RECEIVED A POSITIVE POST? When your child receives a positive post from a staff member you will get an email notification. After you received that notification simply go onto your compass app and look at your child's profile. In the profile you will be able to see more information.

The Positive Post is not only a great way to celebrate your child's success but also a fantastic way to start a conversation at the dinner table. If you don't already have the compass app on your phone, please come and see a staff member and we will help you out. We will be starting our Positive Posts in week 5, we look forward to celebrating your child's learning with you.

Early in Term 4 (Thursday 16th October) we will be hosting our first student led conferences. During the conferences the students and families will have a 15 minute appointment with the class teacher, during this time students will have the opportunity to share their learning goals, achievements and reflections with their families.
