PREP

In Prep we have started the term with a Bang! Our Prep students reached an exciting milestone — 100 days of learning, growing, and exploring together! To celebrate this special occasion, the children took part in a joyful day filled with fun activities.

The 100 Days of School celebration is more than just a number. It’s a moment to recognize how far our little learners have come since the very first day. Our Prep students worked hard throughout the year, and this celebration gave them the chance to proudly showcase their progress and creative projects that highlighted everything they’ve achieved so far.

Each child created a unique project representing 100 in their own way — from collections of 100 colourful stickers to artwork featuring 100 dots and even building structures with 100 blocks! These hands-on projects helped students practice counting and number recognition, while encouraging their creativity and teamwork.

Parents, it was wonderful to see how excited your children were to celebrate their 100 days at school. Celebrations like this remind us all, of the importance of celebrating milestones big and small — they motivate our children and make learning feel special.

We’re so proud of our Prep students and can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds. Here’s to many more days of discovery, achievement, and fun!

It’s been a busy and exciting time in Maths, as we continue to build our skills in fun and hands-on ways!

Lately, we’ve been learning how to add two groups together. Through games, by using manipulatives, and interactive activities, students have been practising how to combine groups and count the total. Whether it’s adding animals in a story, blocks in a tower, or counters on a mat — students are beginning to understand the concept of addition as "putting together" and are becoming more confident at using number sentences like “3 and 2 makes 5!”

In addition to addition, we’ve also been learning about location. Students have been exploring words such as next to, behind, in front, between, above, and below to describe where things are. We’ve recreated Rosie’s Walk, completed mini scavenger hunts, and even given directions to help develop our understanding of position and movement.

One of the highlights has been creating our very own Class Location Book! Each student contributed a page, drawing pictures and writing about where they are located in our classroom. It’s a wonderful showcase of their learning and a great way for students to apply their location vocabulary in meaningful ways.

We’re so proud of the way our Prep learners are developing their maths thinking, and we’re looking forward to more maths adventures in the coming weeks!

The Prep Team

Year 1

The grade 1 students have had a great start to term 3. In Reading we have been working hard on our phonics and participating in fluency buddy reading activities. We have been looking at books such as ‘The Boy who tried to shrink his name’ and ‘Two Mates’ in writing for our author study. In maths we have been gaining proficiency in addition skills using methods like counting on, also in maths we have been having fun using hands on learning for our measurement unit. We used informal units such as icy pole sticks and unifix cubes to measure our books, tables, shoes and even ourselves! We are looking forward to upcoming events such as science week and book week which will bring lots of exciting activities.

Year 2 Term - Learning Updates

Dear Year, 2 Families,

Welcome to Term 3! It's hard to believe we’re already halfway through the year. The students have settled back into routines beautifully and we’re excited for another term full of learning, creativity, and fun experiences. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to – and what’s still to come!

Melbourne Museum Excursion

Last term’s excursion to the Melbourne Museum was an unforgettable experience! Students stepped back in time during the “My Grandmother’s Toy Box” session, learning how toys and technology have changed over time. They marvelled at the towering dinosaur skeletons of Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops and Muttaburrasaurus, and explored the living rainforest in the Forest Gallery. In the Dynamic Earth exhibition, students discovered glowing crystals, sparkling gems, and real volcanic rocks. They learned how the Earth is shaped by natural forces and even got to touch real rock specimens!

Literacy – Author Study: Bob Graham

This term in Literacy, we’ve been exploring the wonderful works of author Bob Graham. So far, we’ve read How the Sun Got to Coco’s House and How to Heal a Broken Wing. Through these stories, students have been identifying characters, settings, and summarising storylines. They’ve also been analysing the way illustrations (colour, size, and layout) help to show characters’ emotions and meaning. Comprehension strategies like predicting, visualising, and questioning are helping students dig deeper into texts.

Real World Maths

In Maths, we’ve been building confidence in addition and subtraction. Students have been using number lines and strategies like jump, split, and compensation to solve problems with one- and two-digit numbers. We’ve also begun our unit on location, where students are learning to give and follow directions, draw maps, and describe positions using words like “next to”, “in front of”, and “behind”. These activities are helping students understand space and direction in a fun, hands-on way.

Science – Fantastic Forces

Our science topic this term is Fantastic Forces. Students have been experimenting with push and pull forces to see how objects move through air, water and on land. We’ve explored how gravity and air resistance work, and students have loved testing out these ideas through real experiments.
