Year 7 Activities Week Reflections
Monday - Vote for Me - Humanities
Monday’s activity involved an entertaining day of political fun where we explored the way elections are run. Our creativity was tested as we tried to help our political parties towards election victory! We think this day was quite fun because the four groups (parties) went through a series of different activities, including brainstorming ideas, creating posters and finally, voting. The leaders of each party all gave engaging speeches and we got to learn about preferential voting. I was happy that my party won in the end. The teachers helped a lot by providing us with some ideas to guide our group discussions and helping the leaders write their speeches.
Tuesday - Studio Ghibili Day - Library + Art Tech
We really liked the Studio Ghibili film that we watched, called ‘Spirited Away’ because the animation style was very cool and the plot of the film was intriguing. We also enjoyed creating things out of clay and doing some arts and crafts related to the characters in the film we watched. The teachers and staff were all very helpful and supportive.
Wednesday - Mazing - Maths
Our final activities day saw our group of about 50 Year 7’s complete Maths problem-solving activities. This involved plenty of hands-on activities, as well as the construction of mazes and structures. We think the activities were really fun and engaging, but also quite challenging because of some time limits. We had to work together in teams of 4 to solve a series of difficult problems using logical thinking and complete some creative STEM challenges. It was fun to be able to work with someone from another class, who I wouldn’t normally work with and socialise with my friends while working as a team. There were even prizes given out for the top 6 groups on the leaderboard at the end of the day.
Thanks to all the wonderful teachers who ran these activities for us at a busy time of year.
