Galileo - End of an Era
There has been a great sense of sentimentality in the air in these final weeks of Term 4 for both Galileo staff and students, all of whom are aware they are the final people to be a part of University High School’s Year 9 Galileo Program as we transition next year to the new Booeegigat Program at the Lonsdale St campus.
Here are some fun facts about the Galileo Program:
- The program started in 2009 - making it a part of Uni High’s fabric for 15 years.
- The Galileo Program has run in many locations over the years. Its original home base was the Loft (now the wellbeing office).
- Galileo has had many iterations of staff teams over the years. Some of whom still work at UHS in their respective domains. Some of these being: Mollie Bobeff (English), Lisa Pollifroni (English), Zhuo (Joy) Li (Maths), Ester Koelle (Humanities), John Tiernan (LOTE), Trent Ogden (English/Inquiry), Concettina (Tina) Inserra (Art/Food).
This term has been a fantastic final term of Galileo, wrapped up with a festive day of celebrations. During the final day, we went to Royal Park for a picnic, where students were asked to bring food to share with their peers. We then did our final activity for the term, where students wrote each other notes of appreciation and reflected on their term getting to know each other. This started in homegroups and then became a 70 person free-for-all of note-giving and receiving. This final activity, combined with watching student-made camp videos, speeches and shout-outs, is a fitting end to Galileo, as it reflects the most important parts of the program: friendships, memories and community.
