Principal's Report
Principal's Message
Farewell Mrs Glover
This year we farewell the amazing Mrs Glover. After 26 years at Boambee, Mrs Glover has decided to retire in 2025. It is impossible to capture the contribution she has made to our school and community within this short passage, but Mrs Glover has shared a few insights into her time as a teacher at Boambee Public School.
One of the most powerful things Mrs Glover told me was that she never meant to stay at any school this long, but decided to stay here at Boambee Public School for 26 years because it is a such a great school and she just couldn't leave (I feel the same way Trish!).
Mrs Glover told me she will miss her students and colleagues the most, but won't miss writing reports and entering data!
Some of her favourite memories are:
- Going to Aquajet with the whole community.
- Having her own children come through this school whilst she worked here.
- This year Mrs Glover is teaching Zay Taylor in her last year and she taught Zay's mum in her very first year at Boambee.
- Stopping to play in the snow on the way home from the Year 6 Canberra trip one year. We all bundled out of the bus to experience snow - for the very first time for many!
- The amazing community feel of Boambee Public School, it really is one big family!
- Getting to teach entire families from youngest to oldest, watching them go all the way through from Kindy to Year 6.
- Running into kids out and about in the community who happily come to say hello, even as grown adults with their own children.
Mrs Glover is a deeply valued member of our school, our students love being in her class and our colleagues love working with her. Mrs Glover will be sadly missed, but we wish her all the very best for the next stage of her life.
Christmas Choir and Dance Group
Last week I had the pleasure of seeing our Christmas Choir and our Dance Group perform at Toormina Gardens. There must have been 100 of our parents and family members there to watch just outside K Mart - these students performed beautifully. Thanks again to Mrs Sciortino who had no voice but still managed to pull together another excellent performance.
Aboriginal Dance
Sincere thanks to Sawtell Public School for the organisation and delivery of an Aboriginal dance program to celebrate their schools centenary. Eight of our students were lucky enough to be part of this program and they made us very proud with their commitment and quality performance of Aboriginal cultural dance. Thank you to Ms Hollman, Mr Doyle and Kevin Dumas for your support delivering this program.
Year 4 - 6 Transitions
Over the past 4 weeks our year 4, 5 and 6 students have been able to attend fantastic transition lessons at Toormina High School. These opportunities are a direct result of the excellent work of Mr Shipman, Mr Doyle and the support of our P & C President Tas Alam. Our success in this area is a direct result of our community connections with Toormina High School. These events have been enabled via community links between actual community members in our school.
Wellbeing, Garden and Passive Play Club
The Wellbeing Club, Garden and Passive Play Club activities have been a hive of activity over the past 2 weeks. Well done to these students, their mentors and to Michele for this awesome contribution to our school!
Year 6 Camp
Our students visited iconic and significant places such as Parliament House, Questacon, The Mint, The National Gallery, The National Musuem, The War Memorial and Government House. They also had a lot of fun cooling off at the Aqua Park on Lake Burley Griffin.
Sincere thanks to Mrs Dines, Mrs Glover and Mrs Lang for looking after our students in Canberra last week. You can read more about this camp in class news.
An Unforgettable Day!
A Message from Pat Conaghan:
This week, I welcomed the bright and inquisitive Year 6 students from Boambee Public School to Parliament House! Their enthusiasm and thoughtful questions were contagious.
A big thank you to the incredible teachers and parents who made this visit possible. Your dedication to nurturing a love for learning and understanding of our system is invaluable.
To the Year 6 students: Keep asking those important questions—you are the future of our community, and it’s looking very bright with you in it!
Go Kindy 2025!
Our 2025 Kindy students have now finished their transition to school program. For many of these students this is their 6th or 7th visit to our school. All visits have been smooth sailing as a result of our extensive transition program and the efforts of parents and staff. Thank you to Miss Hollman for leading this program.
