Foundation

Wow! We can't believe that it's almost the end of the year! There has been so many things happening at HEPS and in Foundation over the last couple of weeks.

Last Wednesday all of the Foundation students thoroughly enjoyed their first whole school colour run and they all left at the end of the day covered in colour. On Wednesday 4th December all of the Foundation students walked to the Heathmont shops to practise buying things using real money as part of our maths unit on money. It was fantastic to see all of the students thinking carefully about their purchases and exchanging real money at actual shops. A big thank you to  all of the parent helpers that came along to help.

In Literacy we have been writing lots of different narratives, practising our handwriting and remembering to use boundary punctuation in our sentences. The students have enjoyed taking a deep look at some picture books and articulating their thinking with the rest of the class. They have also enjoyed reading to a partner.

In Maths we have been playing lots of money games, ordering coins,  matching coins and practising using skip counting to add small amounts of coins. All the students have enjoyed sharing what they know about money. Some notable contributions have included, "You can just get some more from the bank whenever you need to", and "Money is just a plastic card that you tap".

As we get closer to the end of the year, our beautiful Foundation students are beginning to get tired and short-tempered, and sometimes friendship fires can get blown out of proportion. Please encourage your child to have a go at solving 'little' problems first, just like we have been teaching them.
