Last Thursday MABIAD (Make a book in a day) students took part in a writing workshop with local author Shivaun Plozza. This was in preparation for the main writing day this Friday 22nd November – we hope everyone enjoys the day and the opportunity!

Just a reminder that the library is currently located in classroom (S3) while Year 10 Exams take place. We are open as usual (from 8:15am until 4:30pm (4pm on Fridays)). We will have a small selection of books, magazines, and games available for students to borrow/use. We are also opening the classroom next door (S2) for students to use at recess and lunchtimes. Day use Laptops are also available, however there is no printer – for any printing or copying needs, students need to use the colour printer located in the T-Wing (outside T12 and T13).

The main library will reopen on Monday 2nd December!

Book of the Week

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson thinks he is just an ordinary boy struggling to do well in school until he accidentally vaporises one of his teachers. The world turns out to be a lot more complicated than he thought; his best friend is a satyr, and apparently there are monsters lurking everywhere in plain sight and they are all out to kill him!

Percy’s journey leads him to a mysterious camp filled with other kids like him, where he learns the truth about his birth and why his life is in danger. He goes on a quest, takes on more monsters and some Gods, and discovers he has talents he never knew he had.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is an exciting blend of action, adventure, humour, and Greek mythology, with some great heroes and monsters – perfect for anyone looking for a book with lots of action and a bit of humour. I really enjoyed this book, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
