Remembrance Day

BHS Music students Rabhin O’Keife, Liam Biro and Erin Daly performed at events both at school and GMHBA Stadium on November 11th.

Liam Biro performed the Last Post and Rouse at the school’s commemoration with distinction, as did Rabhin at the GMHBA Stadium’s event. Erin Daly gave a moving reading of the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’. Congratulations to these three students for their fine performances which contributed so much to the spirit and atmosphere of these events.

Clairvaux Carnivale

Last Saturday 40 students, Mrs Moffatt and Ms Humphrey entertained the crowds at Clairvaux’s famous Carnivale, with CHEG, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Intermediate Jazz, Jazz Syndicate and HAZELL all performing. Set up under the trees, all groups put on a great show! While the performances were impressive, more impressive still was the fabulous way everyone pitched in to bump the gear in and out of the trailer, and to do all they could to make set up as quick as possible. Thanks to all who gave up their time to add to the Carnivale atmosphere, and for representing BHS Music so well.

Vocal Soiree

Last Thursday Nadine and her voice students performed songs for a warmly supportive audience, sharing stories and beautiful music together throughout the night. Many thanks to Nadine for creating such a nurturing environment for young singers.

Year 6 students are gearing up for their concert, on Tuesday Dec 3rd at 5.30pm in the PAC

They’ve made fabulous progress, so come along and behold the amazing talent coming to BHS in 2025!

Ensemble CAT

Last Tuesday Ensemble program students completed the public performance component of their Ensemble CAT, making music together in large and small groups. There were some standout performances on the night, and congratulations to all students who prepared so well for this assessment.

Congratulations also to the Year 8+9 Trombone ensemble, whose performance of ‘Misirlou’ has been chosen as the standout performance of the evening. They will perform this work at the BHS awards night.

Many thanks to instrumental staff for their encouragement and hard work helping students to prepare their items.

Combined Bands Day – Ballarat

Yesterday 27 of our Beginning band students travelled to Mt Rowan SC to participate in a fabulous day of music with students from Ballarat State schools. Well-fed with lunch provided by the even organizers, our students workshopped combined pieces and performed for each other in a really positive and supportive atmosphere, really making the most of this great opportunity. Many thanks to Emma Moffatt for always seeking out events like this to inspire and encourage our beginning students.

With 50 students in the Year 6 program, spaces are filling fast for the ensemble program in 2025.

Please ensure that you have completed a re enrolment form for your child if they are continuing in the Ensemble Program in 2025.

This is important information for us, so that we can allocate instruments for 2025.

The re enrolment form is available on Compass, in the School documentation tab.

Ensemble Program Fee Increase for 2025

To enable us to cover repair and equipment costs, we have increased  the Ensemble program fees for 2025.

Our Fees policy is available on Compass in the school documentation tab.

2025 Ensemble Program Fees

Instrumental music lessons will end in the last week of November, and we ask that all instruments be returned if students are not continuing, to allow time for cleaning and maintenance.
