Last Week Kindergarten were lucky enough to have Ranger Jamie Tours visit as part of their Geography Unit ‘Looking after Places’. Kindergarten learnt all about animal habitats and how we can help to look after them.
I can’t believe we are at the end of Year 1! What a fantastic year we have had. To finish the year, Year 1 thought we would share our knowledge of Earth and water. We have learnt how precious water is to life. Students firstly completed this task with Ms Brookes:
After further investigation, Year 1 researched and found out some amazing facts.
When can get water from the sea, rivers, taps and rain clouds. (Cormac)
Earth is called the Blue Planet because it has the most water. (Gideon)
Earth has more water than it has land. (Lucy)
Most of our water is in the ocean. (Leo)
We can’t drink all of the earth’s water because lots of it is salt water. (Ken)
We have had so much fun this year with Ms Brookes in STEM. Thank you Ms Brookes for making our learning so much fun!
Over the past fortnight, the Year Two students have been exploring the exciting world of maths by forming groups, halving, doubling, and diving into fractions. They’ve thoroughly enjoyed dividing cakes and chocolate bars into sixths, eighths, and even tenths! We’re looking forward to a cake party soon, where we can put all our fraction knowledge to delicious use.
We also had a fantastic time participating in Ninja Day, raising funds for the Charitable Works Fund (CWF). Thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful cause—it’s been a busy and productive fortnight!
This term, our Year 3 students have been having an absolute blast learning all about Australian Rules Football (AFL). They've been working hard on perfecting their skills, including holding, passing, kicking, and marking the ball. But it's not just about the physical activity; they've also been having thoughtful discussions on the importance of fair play, sportsmanship, and being a great team player. It's been wonderful to see the students engage with enthusiasm and teamwork, making every P.E. session a highlight of their week!
Year 3 also has a very special visit from Ms Jory and Addie today. It was wonderful to see them both looking so well. See you soon Ms Jory!
To wrap up an incredibly successful year, Year 4 joined Year 5 for a leadership day, where they prepared for the exciting leadership roles and responsibilities they'll take on next year. Working in teams to solve puzzles and develop teamwork strategies, they gained skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. I’m so proud of Year 4’s dedication to this day, which reflects the effort they’ve put into making every moment of Year 4 count.
The Year 5 students at our school have been busy honing their leadership skills and preparing their speeches. Their dedication and hard work have truly paid off, as they confidently delivered their well-crafted speeches to their peers and teachers. Each student demonstrated remarkable confidence and passion, showcasing their unique qualities and aspirations for our school. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing these young leaders continue to inspire and lead our school community. Great job, Year 5!
Year 6 Student Spotlight
Gabriel is my name and I am in year 6. I came to St Margaret Mary’s last year to join year 5. I have enjoyed going to school at StMM for the last two years, it has gone very fast and my primary school years are coming to an end. My first impression of StMM when I first stepped into the gates was how small the school was. StMM has been a very welcoming school, making me feel accepted right away and I found it easy to adapt to the new school. StMM has given me activities that I really enjoy such as the Tournament of Minds, sports and being a buddy to the kindies. Sports has always been an activity that I enjoyed very much and in particular, participating in the swimming carnival.
Joining StMM has been a major milestone in my life and I am glad I joined the school. I have made many good friends and I hope to keep in touch with them. I will always remember this school for the big welcome I received in the beginning. In Year 5, it started with me and another boy and this was a significant change for me as I had come from a bigger school. Three other boys then joined and I was very happy to see more boys in the class. I really appreciate the smaller class environment, it helped me make friends more easily and received more support from the teachers.
StMM will always be a school I remember for its big heart. It has given me many great friendships and positive experiences, making my time at StMM truly memorable.
Hello, my name is Jacob I came to St Margaret Mary’s in Year 5 and I love this school because of how accepting everyone is. I have been to multiple schools and this is by far the best school I have been to, no other school I've been to has had such a rich and welcoming community. Every single person here is kind and inclusive.
Now I’d like to talk about some of my favourite memories. One of these memories is the time when a man came to the school to teach us about physics. He taught us that if you sit on one nail you’ll get a nasty scar but when you sit on a hundred you’ll be fine. He then proved this by getting a girl to sit on that same bed of nails and she was fine he also explained the laws of physics. He taught us many other interesting phenomena.
But now I’d like to talk about my favourite subject science specifically physics more specifically the universe, stars, planets, gravity, light, and energy, I love space and biology and math. The science classes we have lack materials and demonstrations and facilities. But Miss Brookes proves you don’t need money to make a fun engaging and intuitive lesson and I know a lot about space it’s practically all I do in my spare time.
So when I leave this school I’ll know you don’t need money materials or facilities to do great things you just need determination.
I’d like to share my favourite subject: science—specifically physics, and even more specifically, the universe, stars, planets, gravity, light, and energy. I’m fascinated by space, as well as biology and math. Our weekly science classes are always enjoyable. Mrs Brookes designs lessons that are fun, engaging and intuitive. In my spare time, I spend a lot of time learning about space—it’s a topic I’m really passionate about. When I leave this school, I’ll carry with me the understanding that you don’t need endless resources to achieve great things; all it takes is determination.
