  Myuna Farm

On Wednesday 5th November, the Foundation students enjoyed an exciting excursion to Myuna Farm. The rain stayed away and it was not too cold, making it a perfect day to explore everything the farm had to offer. Students had the opportunity to see and feed a variety of animals, take a ride on the farm train, milked a goat and hold a lizard. Throughout the day, they demonstrated confidence in trying new experiences and showed great respect towards the animals and staff.  It was a fantastic day of learning and fun!

1/2 News

In our Literacy and Art programs, we have been exploring the books Edward the Emu and Fish is Fish. Students have been learning about characters—how they feel, why they feel that way, and how we can connect with their experiences. We have also been practising making predictions and personal connections to deepen our understanding of the stories.

In Numeracy, we have been learning about fractions and discovering that a fraction represents an equal part of a whole. Students have enjoyed using hands-on materials to explore this concept in fun and practical ways.

Our Integrated lessons have taken us on a journey around the world as we learn about the continents and their unique landmarks and features. Last week, we explored Europe, discovering fascinating sites such as Big Ben, the Colosseum, the Acropolis, and the Eiffel Tower. This week, our focus is on Africa, where students have learnt about the Nile River, the Sahara Desert, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Lake Victoria. We were amazed to learn that Africa is home to 54 countries and over 1,500 different languages!

In Science, we have been investigating everyday mixtures and identifying which ones we can eat or drink. This week, students are learning how to separate different solid materials, such as Rice Bubbles, cocoa, and coconut, through fun hands-on experiments.

Grade 5/6 Public Speaking Success!

During the first week of Term 4, our Grade 5/6 students had the exciting opportunity to present their public speaking speeches they had been working on since Term 3. This experience helped prepare them for the selection of two students to represent Pakenham Hills Primary School at the Rotary Public Speaking Experience.

A big congratulations to all students who showed wonderful courage by presenting their speeches in front of their peers and teachers. After some very impressive presentations, Aradhana (5/6L) and Mia (5/6M) were selected to represent our school at the Rotary event.

On Tuesday evening, 28th October, Aradhana and Mia proudly represented Pakenham Hills Primary School at Meadowvale. They spoke confidently in front of an audience of families, friends and teachers from local schools. The competition was strong, and both students should be extremely proud of how they presented themselves with confidence and enthusiasm.

Aradhana delivered an informative and fascinating speech titled “What Would Happen If the Moon Disappeared?”, while Mia shared an emotional and heartfelt speech about her family’s journey from Mexico to Australia and how they adapted to life here.

Although our school didn’t take home first or second place, both students received a certificate and monetary reward for their outstanding efforts. Well done, Aradhana and Mia — you represented our school beautifully!
