Transition and Assessment

This week, I enjoyed being part of our penultimate Prep 2026 Transition session with Mrs Ferguson. Our future preps were outstanding in the way that they listened, followed instructions and participated in their activity and I am excited for their formal learning journey to begin with us very soon – although perhaps my excitement could not match that of some of the group when they saw their new MEPS uniform that their parents had collected! The final Prep 2026 session is on Monday, 1st December where the students will meet their teacher. For our current students, they have been participating in cohort transition sessions over the last few weeks. During this time students have had the opportunity to work in different classrooms with a range of their peers. Our teaching staff consider many factors when placing students in a class and we ask for your trust in this process. Students in P-5 will meet their 2026 teacher and classmates on UP Day on 9th December, the same day that many of our current year 6 students will have their secondary school transition. We encourage families to speak positively with their children regarding the transition process and positively frame this process.

As we work towards the end of the year, your child may come home telling you about assessments that they may have been completing in class. Such tasks support our teachers to gather further evidence to inform their end of year teacher judgements which will appear in students’ end of year report. Please reassure your child that assessments are just one opportunity to show their teacher what they know and can do and that their teacher has been monitoring their learning all year, not only in one assessment. All students should be proud of their efforts and achievements. I am looking forward to formally celebrating our Academic Achievement and Learning Endeavour award recipients at Assembly on the 8th December with our school community.

As the run to the finish sees our social and school calendars filling up, I encourage students to continue to come to school with a positive attitude towards learning. Every day is a new opportunity to learn something new!
