Year Four
Spotlight on Learning
Jericho Community
Dear Families & Friends
How wonderful to see the students all engaged and on task this week. There is great excitement in each classroom as our buckets of used batteries fill up. The race is on! At the moment everyone is talking about 4C and their 'secret weapon', but we see the other classes catching up! In the end, it will be a community prize when we win (We are thinking positively)!

This week the Year 6 Art Leadership group of Sana, Zayna, Leo and Akain, offered a lunchtime art club to the Year 4 community. Many year 4's were very keen to attend.

Recently we have had children not using ICT safely. These are non preferred behaviours. Please monitor your students use of kids messenger and other messaging apps in particular. It is an expectation that students use ICT safely at school and at home. Please find attached the ICT policy that every student and parent in our community signed this year. This includes smart phones or watches not coming to school, or being handed in to the class teacher at the start of the day. Please have a discussion with your children about online safety.
We hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend, remembering their is no school on Monday or Tuesday, followed by a three day learning weekend. A timely mid term break.
English:

This week the students have completed assessment about their learning related to the Storm Boy text. The students also continued to explore vocabulary (such as latin based words using scribe & script - subscribe, unsubscribed, subscriber & subscription) and practiced their typing skills. Next week the students will begin to explore the text The Arrival. Students will explore words such as nefarious and vignette as they begin to understand the book.
Mathematics:
This week the students began a 3 week unit learning about 3D objects. Students identified the difference between 2D & 3D shape, created their own 3D shape using 2D shapes, identifed the language used to describe 3D shapes and practiced drawing 3D shapes. Next week the students will be using a number of 3D objects to create a new object while learning about the use of perspective to create a drawing of 3D shapes.
Religious Education:
This week the students began to get ready for our Community Mass by practicing songs as well as working out how they can move from being a pilgrim, on a journey, to a missionary, sharing their faith. Next week we will continue to practice our songs, have a Mass Practice to get ready for the following week, and learn about the upcoming Remembrance Day.
Social & Emotional Learning & Integrated Studies:
This week, students explored how they know whether a problem is ‘serious’ or not and how we know whether we should involve other people in helping us to solve our problem.
Auslan:
This week students had their midcycle assessment reviewing colours, pets and farm animals. Next week we begin a new unit, called 'At the zoo'.
