Year Five
Spotlight on Learning
Bethany Community
Dear Bethany Families,
This week, our students had a special visit from Pastor Prince, who works with 'Christ Mission India'. He shared about his inspiring work supporting vulnerable and marginalised communities in India. Students learned about the difference being made for those who are less fortunate and reflected on how small acts of kindness can create big change. They were inspired to think of ways they could help others and started their own fundraising projects. It was a meaningful experience that encouraged our students to show empathy, generosity, and global awareness.

Next Week
Religious Education:
Students will be exploring the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and making connections to how Catholics are called to love and serve one another. Over the next few weeks, they will continue working cooperatively in groups to design and develop a fundraising activity that puts these values into action.
English:
We are continuing our class novel, The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. They are exploring new vocabulary and deepening their comprehension through class discussions. In writing, students will continue using the notes they have taken to plan and complete the second argument of their persuasive letter.
Mathematics :
Next week, students are learning to determine the effect of rounding numbers up or down in division calculations. They will also learn to identify situations where rounding is needed and decide when to use exact or estimated answers.
Integrated Studies:
Next week in Health, students will review and strengthen their understanding of how different foods support body systems and examine the reliability of different sources of health information. They will reflect on their current lifestyle habits and consider how nutrition, exercise, rest, and emotional balance contribute to maintaining healthy body systems. Finally, students will develop a personal health plan that supports their wellbeing.
Social & Emotional Learning:
This week, students reviewed and strengthened their understanding of trusted adults and how to seek help when needed. Next week, students will explore data cards and engage in discussions about what the information reveals regarding patterns of behaviour, attitudes, and experiences at school. This activity will help them reflect on their own actions and understand how positive behaviours contribute to a supportive and respectful learning environment.
Auslan:
Next week, students will begin some end of year assessments and revisions of previously learned signs. Ask your child which is their favourite sign and see if they can sign it for you and demonstrate how to sign.
HATS - During term 4, school hats are mandatory.
As students’ bodies and minds continue to develop, it’s important they start the day well-nourished. We kindly ask families to ensure that students come to school having eaten a healthy breakfast. A nutritious start to the day helps students maintain focus, energy, and a positive attitude throughout the morning, particularly during the first two hours of learning when concentration is vital. Thank you for your support in helping our students be ready to learn and do their best each day.
Reminder for students to bring in forks or spoons with their lunch.
