Valedictory celebrations
Congratulations to the Class of 2025, we had such fun celebrating your Valedictory Day with you on Friday. There were tears of joy (and probably some of relief!) as our Year Twelves head into their lives beyond the daily routine of school. Some are facing ATAR exams, some are commencing full time work and some are starting apprenticeships in their area of passion. Wherever they go, they will always be a member of the GSG community and we look forward to hearing from them, soon!

Service at GSG
The start of Term Four marks an exciting chapter for our new Year Twelve leaders as they step into their roles. Over the weekend, I attended the Boer War and Charge of Beersheba Service with our Community & Service Captains. This was the first formal event for Charlie Hill and Nyomi Johnson and they laid a wreath at the service.
This combined service commemorates two significant conflicts in Australia’s mounted military history. The Boer War (1899–1902) marked Australia’s first involvement in an overseas conflict, while the Charge of Beersheba (31 October 1917) is remembered as the last mass cavalry charge in military history. Both events saw Australian troops serve as mounted infantry—riding on horseback but fighting predominantly on foot.
During the service we heard from Sam McKeon, GSG Alumni (Class of 2010) who spoke about the bravery of the Lighthorse troops involved in the Charge of Beersheba. It was great to see Sam and hear about his travels beyond GSG, into the Office of Defence Industry Support.
We are also looking to 2026 and how GSG can be of service in the Albany community next year. Stay tuned for some updates from our student leadership team in coming weeks.
