Student Engagement

Preparing for Transition
As we move further into Term 4, we begin to be mindful of the emotions that can arise as students start thinking about their transition to new classes next year. While this change is still a little way off, it’s natural for children to feel a mix of excitement and uncertainty. You can support your child by having calm, reassuring conversations such as:
- “What are you most looking forward to in your new class?”
- “Is there anything you feel unsure or nervous about?”
- “What helps you feel calm or confident when things change?”
“What’s something you’re proud of learning this year?”
These small conversations help children recognise their feelings, build confidence, and see change as an opportunity for growth.
Routines and Readiness
Consistent routines help children feel secure, confident, and ready to learn, not only during transitions but every day. Regular bedtimes, organised mornings, and time set aside for reading or homework build focus and responsibility. These habits also make mornings calmer and help students start the day in a positive mindset.
Attendance Matters
Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in student success. Every day at school counts, helping children stay connected with friends, keep up with learning, and feel confident in the classroom. Families can support this by setting up a consistent morning routine, preparing bags and lunches the night before, and aiming for early bedtimes to ensure students arrive rested and ready to learn.
Healthy Habits
We encourage families to maintain a healthy balance between screen time, outdoor play, and family connection. To support better sleep, focus, and wellbeing, we recommend no phones or devices in bedrooms and limiting gaming or screen use before bed. Encouraging outdoor activity, creativity, and face-to-face interaction helps children stay grounded, connected, and ready to thrive, both at school and beyond.
