From the Classroom
What's happening in 3/4
Last Friday, the students in 3/4 celebrated Diwali Day. Students made Coconut Laddoo, Suncatcher Rangoli, Diya candle holders and Chalk Rangoli. We learned about the festival of lights, enjoyed working with different people and making traditional Diwali items. Check out Marlborough's Facebook page for more information and pictures.
In English, students are continuing to read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and picture books from around the world that celebrate different cultural or religious festivals. They are making connections between the folktales from different countries.
In Maths, students are investigating how to read and write decimals and their relationship with fractions. Students are continuing to study mapping and using BOLTSS when creating and reading maps.
In Inquiry, students are starting their project on a religious or cultural celebration from somewhere around the world. Feel free to assist your child in finding more information and images to bring to school for their project.

In English, we have started learning about letter writing students have learnt the parts of a letter such as greeting, date, body and closing. They enjoyed reading "Dragon Post" and the letters of the main character Alex and how he asked for help with his dragon. Students will continue exploring letter writing over the coming weeks. We are currently focussing on the two letter k sound /ck/ and continuing to build on our skills in reading words and sentences using the sounds we have already learnt.
In Maths last week have been working on subtraction and counting backwards to find the answer. In the coming weeks we will be starting our unit on time. This week we have been reinforcing our knowledge about days of the week and what activities we do each day at school. We encourage you to talk about the days of the week at home to continue this practice.
In Inquiry, students have been learning about body percussion and how to find a beat. In the coming weeks we will begin learning our song for Christmas Carols. Students have also spent time this week learning about Remembrance Day and making their own poppy wreaths from paper.
