Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, Project Compassion
On Tuesday Student Ministry ran a successful pancake stall in recognition of Shrove Tuesday. It was wonderful to share the pancake making with our Student Ministers who came into school early to cook pancakes for us all to enjoy. Shrove Tuesday is a Christian festival celebrated in many countries across the globe. It falls on the Tuesday before the beginning of Lent – a period of six weeks leading up to Easter. During Lent, we give up luxuries to remember when Jesus went into the desert for 40 days to fast and pray. All money raised from this stall were donated to Project Compassion.
On Wednesday each House celebrated an Ash Wednesday Liturgy. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a period of reflection leading up to Easter. The ashes serve as a reminder of our mortality, signifying a spiritual journey ahead. They symbolize our commitment to sacrifice during this Lenten season and our commitment to penance, prayer and almsgiving.
Some of our students represented our college at the Online Caritas Australia Launch. This is our major fundraiser for the Season of Lent. We encourage students to give generously to this charity. The theme for 2024 is “For All Future Generations” reminding us that the good we do today will have an impact on future generations. Each Homeroom has a Project Compassion Box. Students will be encouraged in homeroom to make contributions that will help alleviate poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity for the most vulnerable and marginalised in communities worldwide.
On Monday Ms Kyd will be launching the 2024 Kimberley Immersion to all Year 10 and 11 students. Please see the attached movie as an overview of the sorts of activities that the students will undertake as part of the Immersion experience.
Please note that we appreciate that this Immersion is an exciting opportunity for students, our School Fees Collection Policy states that College fees need to be fully paid or payment plans need to be up-to-date, as agreed with the Finance Officer and the Business Manager, in order for students to be eligible to attend the Immersion. Please feel free to contact the College Principal or Business Manager if you wish to discuss this element of the application.
Applications are due to Ms Kyd on Friday 8 March 2024.
