Japanese Visit

As mentioned in the last edition of the Weekly Wrap the College received a visit from a delegation from Moka City. The delegation arrived on Monday 30th October for lunch and a brief farm tour.

On that same afternoon, four staff and twenty-seven students from Kugeta Junior High School, Moka City arrived. They also toured the College Farm visiting the dairy, sheep, beef, and horticulture section. They were most impressed with the milking process and feeding calves at the Dairy.

Three staff and twenty of the students were accommodated on-site at the College staying until Thursday morning the 2nd of November. The cultural exchange and engagement between the Japanese and boarding students were very positive; the visiting students were even involved in our Halloween party. Students used Google Translate and other apps to communicate and learn about each other. This was a fantastic experience for all concerned.

The Japanese staff and students provided some thank-you gifts on their departure in the form of some framed cotton tapestry and calligraphy by the students. These were gratefully accepted and in exchange, the College provided individual mementos to each student (a College cap) and staff (a College scarf) which they instantly wore with pride.

Graduation and Prize Day

What a fantastic day to celebrate and acknowledge the success of students and to farewell the Year 12 cohort of 2023.

It was great to be able to return to our ‘normal’ format from three years ago pre COVID. It is important to include both the Year 10 and 11 students as part of the ceremony, aspiring them to achieve and to farewell the graduation cohort.

Congratulations and well done to all the scholarship and prize winners. I would also like to acknowledge the exceptional way in which the 2024 Year 12 Student Councillors undertook the Master of Ceremonies duties for the event.

Finally, congratulations to Talesha James who was announced as College Captain for 2024.

Thank you to all staff and students involved in the lead up to and on the day making this a day for all to remember. A great team effort!

Memorial Service

On Saturday 4th November staff and students attended a memorial service in Collie for Emma Varis, an ex-student from the graduating cohort of 2019 who passed away recently. Emma was remembered as a bright and bubbly person with a passion for animals and caring for them. Emma was 22 years old when her life was tragically cut short. Memories of her life were shared by a large crowd from all the communities, schools and organisations she had been involved in. There was a significant number from her cohort that were present.

Transition Program for 2024

The Transition program for students who have accepted their offer and are enrolled in the College for 2024 will occur on Sunday 19th – Tuesday 21st November. The purpose of this day is to welcome and transition the new students into the College for 2024, so they are familiar with the surroundings, expectations and basic routines. This process has proven to be successful and enables an effective and efficient start to the coming year.

Parent Surveys

Each year the College surveys parents/carers to identify where we are doing well and where we can improve.

The Year 12 parent/carer survey has been provided and has now closed.

The Year 11 parents/carers will receive an email this week containing a link to complete the survey.

The email containing the link for parents/carers of Year 10 students will be sent out during Week 7.
