Teaching and Learning

Ballarat Young Authors’ Program

Last Thursday our Young Authors’ Program participants were involved in workshop 3 of the program.  Once again, it was a highly engaging day that was thoroughly enjoyed by students.  The day was held at the Australian Catholic University’s (ACU) Aquinas Campus here in Ballarat and students had opportunities to work with several authors as well as a provocation session on the banks of Lake Wendouree to inspire their writing.  The theme of the day was, ‘Growing as Writers’.

Next Friday, these students will head to Melbourne for their final celebration day where they will visit ACMI and partake in a literary walk in Melbourne’s Federation Square.

Bulldogs Read Program

The Bulldogs Read Program culminates at the end of this week with participants invited to a celebration day that will be held at Russell Square Recreation Facility.  Students will hear from a well-known children’s author (it’s a surprise), participate in a football clinic and have an opportunity to mingle with students from other participating schools and share lunch together. This year was the first year that we have been involved in the program and we have been invited to submit an expression of interest to participate again in 2024. We thank the Ballarat Bulldogs team as well as Ballarat Libraries for their support and work throughout the year to make this opportunity available to our students.

Lions’ Club Junior Public Speaking

Expressions of interest have been flagged by keen students to participate in this year’s Junior Public Speaking Competition hosted by the Lions’ Club.  We had 3 Grade 3/4 students and 6 Grade 5/6 students indicate their interest in participating.  Unfortunately, we can only enter two students per age category so a school based competition is necessary in order to determine our school representatives.  This will take place throughout this week and successful candidates will participate in the competition on Monday, November 20th.

Being safe online- Free Parent Information Session

Ballarat Libraries Technology Hub in conjunction with ThinkUKnow Australia presents a fantastic opportunity for parents, carers, and educators, to learn more about young people and the online environment, and how to help them be safe and responsible users of technology. The presentation will provide information on tools to create a safer online environment for children and young people.

The presentation is not suitable for children.
